1982 CB750 clutch/something problems
« on: September 09, 2017, 12:16:29 PM »
So I put my clutch disks and springs in my bike a while ago and all was well, the bike ran perfect and shifted great. However my bike was dropped and soon after it (the next morning when I was riding it) I noticed some interesting problems.

1.) When in first gear coming to a slow stop at low RPMs at say a red light or stop sign when the bike is about to stop there's a very loud clunking from between my legs (possibly clutch) that I can actually feel moving around, not just hear. When I stop the bike completely, it goes away. This is new, and didn't do it even after the new clutch parts were put in. I might even hear the shifter lever moving but I can't be sure.

2.) I have recently noticed that while riding the bike if I'm in 2nd or 3rd gear and the engine is under load I can hear (and I think feel..?) a clunking between my legs, like a steady noise every half second almost like something being hammered. If I throttle out of it I'm pretty sure the noise goes away (hard to hear over engine). I was curious if the drop could have damaged anything in the transmission/gearbox area that I can check for?

3.) Also, I don't know if its relevant but also I have a new symptom where if the bike is at lower RPMs cruising there's hesitation and a very light stuttering until I throttle up excessively. I don't believe the bike is lugged down and I'm not providing enough power, because I have to throttle quite a bit and it's responsive.

My chain was loose but I have already tightened it to the manual tightness (3/4 to 1 inch free play). Other than slack, what can I check for as a newbie? Thanks!

on the 650 the drive chain will clunk loud when loose.   That might have been part of your prob.

as far as the hesitation could be any number of things.     Try new plugs to start with and timing.  and the advancers.  They could be sticking. Then is on to carb work.

So my dad told me to test the hesitation by pulling the choke when it starts to do that while driving and it cleared up, he believes the low speed injector is clogged (and also carbs aren't synced)
