RRBuGGz' '78 CB750K Brat Project
« on: September 09, 2017, 09:46:51 PM »
Been lurking for a bit taking in all the info.  Figured I should finally get around to posting up my project.  First time building a bike, but I can turn a wrench.  Started a couple of months ago.  I have tons of progress but I'm horrible when it comes to taking the time to post and document things online.

Here she is before starting the tear down.  I originally started with just a frame but eventually came across a running bike with only 8500 miles on it that ran great.  Should have probably left well enough alone..but couldn't leave it alone.

Having a hard time trying to figure out where to hide all the electrical stuff.  Trying to figure out where to mount the battery.  I'd like to show it if possible.  Here's where I'm thinking.

Gots a few things done this week.  Added a Delkevic straight exhaust setup today, a Nissin Retro brake setup, and playing around with ideas of where to mount the starter solenoid.  Any one think it will be an issue mounting it under the tank by the carbs?

Trying to hide the electronics has been more of a pain than I thought it would be.  So been playing around with the idea of a small seat cowl.  Also picked up a 5 3/4" bottom mount light setup. Still need to make a mount for it.

Tell me a about the rear sets. I like them.  Also, the oil tank. This has been something I've been contemplating.  The starter solenoid location idea, I like.  I agree, the electronics location is another source of deep thought.  I'm leaning towards the under seat location. The battery is a 8 rather then a bigger size. Was it about just fitting into a small area?  What are your thoughts about cranking amps?  Why the 8?  I would like to use this too but  under the seat.

This is my 78 F model. The seat and the hump are a concept done in Photoshop. Kinda helps me visualize the end result.  So rear sets and oil tank are my next bump in the road. Hense my interest in your project. Where are you?  Lower 48?

Where did you get the bracket for the rear sets and sets themselves. This will work perfect for me. I only have to figure out the master cylinder arrangement.

The rear set brackets are from Cognito and the rear sets are Tarozzi that were also purchased from Cognito.

Thank you.  I just checked them out.  The brackets are different for the 750F.  I like ypurs better. But the F modles comes pre drilled for the master cylinder.  So thats nice.  Appreciate the info.

Been a minute since I had a chance to work on this thing.  Made a small tray for the electronics and started wiring finally.  Also got a battery box/tray for the antigravity and welded it to the Cognito oil tank.

I ordered and returned some because I didn't care for the way the master cylinder mounted on the 750F specific rearsets.  I ended up going with a set of the standard flat ones and tapping my own MC mounts in it.  It made things more compact.

It's been a while since an update.  I've been working on it whenever time permits.  I'm really bad at keeping up with documenting and updating.  Once I start working at it I just keep going.  It's pretty much done except for tuning.  I didn't have the patience or the know how to keep playing with the carbs to get it running right.  Didn't realize how hard it was to find a decent shop with experience with these bikes in NY.  Should be getting it back any day now and then paint.  Still trying to decide on colors.

Finally got some paint on.  Still a few tweaks needed but running pretty good.

Buggzz  is that an F frame or the K bike from the first pics ?
Cuz you have the black F motor in maybe a K bike
And the other fellow has a silver K motor in his F bike...

Check top fin at rear of head in the middle, the number will tell if it's an F or a K.         410 is K

The frame and the motor are from 2 different bikes. It’s kind of tight in there but I don’t see a 410 stamped on the head.   The motor serial I believe is a 78K as well as the frame #.

On an F frame the side stand is further back.. , on the corner where the tube swings up.

So clean and simple. I love it. Also a big fan of black and white personally so this is just lovely to me.

Awesome stuff!

I really wasn’t feeling the green as much as I thought so I decided to respray the tank in BMW grigio telesto.
