Questions before buttoning up engine
« on: September 09, 2017, 09:25:35 AM »
Just about to finish buttoning up an engine, but unsure if I should continue and split the cases and fix some issues I think I'm having

First question is when I shift through the gears it won't flip through all the gears without spinning the sprocket and gears
I spin the sprocket back and forth and shift through the gears and stop spinning until it goes through all five gears
Is that how it's supposed to be ?
Did I install the transmission gears on incorrectly?

Second when I shift front neutral into first it feels like it barely goes into the gear
It doesn't shift into the gears like the other ones
Should I replace the drum stopper and see if it feels better ?
Or would treat be the neutral switch ?

Thanks

Turning the countershaft sprocket is a recommended way to shift the gears with an engine on the bench so that part of your question would be considered 'normal'.

I second that. I can't just click through 1-5 if the engine is shut off and I'm parked. I needed to rock the bike a touch, which would be the same as you moving the sprocket a little bit to get the gears to 'catch'. No worries there.

Not sure about your other question.
