circlip master cylinder
« on: October 07, 2017, 04:39:00 PM »
i'm sure someone has had it worse than me, getting the old one out.  it's soaking again in pb blaster.  can get the ends where the holes are to move but the rest of it is rusted solid.  other than wrestling with it any suggestions?

Dental picks are what I use.
And a snap-ring pliers, although my snap-ring pliers usually come up a bit short so I have to finagle it.

And pushing in the piston shaft with a screwdriver  while held in a vice can give a little more room and allow for better view of the clip.

Yeah, he is going to post it on the pissed off thread and then sell it and a matching clutch lever on ebay as a retro mod shorty lever set.

There is a special circlip tool you can buy that makes it much easier. It is a 90 degree long nose tool.

Ha!  On a serious note, I dont think I would keep it like that, order a new one. [could be a safety hazard]

Tell everyone it was a "lightening" mod and made your bike faster.

...and you only need one finger for braking.

Motion Pro makes circlip pliers for this purpose. The prongs get right into that nasty M/C. Worth the investment ($17) if you will ever deal with the issue again.

Heard of someone recently buying a pair and they broke the first time they went to do a MC circlip extraction...
Talking about the PO thread...probably documented there.

So, what do you do with old aluminum MC parts that need recycled?  Other than send them to Stev-O to make trophies out of or other MC art?

If you had enough levers you could make a set of redneck alum wind chimes out of them cutting them to various lengths to give different tones.

I have had some stubborn clips Eric and was concerned about the tip breaking, but so far so good. They seem to be pretty strong for the small amount of metal that makes up that tip.
