Kaz Yoshima CB400F Camshaft Specs
« on: September 10, 2017, 08:15:15 pm »
Hello,

Does anybody have cam card specs for Yoshima CB400f cams ? Pop can't find the cam card. lol.  Getting his bike in running order again and wanted to check cam is degreed correctly after having motor apart. Any info on them would be great ! Tried the search function and looking on the web wasn't able to find anything.  Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Josh

Do you mean Yoshimura?

Specs:

Ontario Special - IN open 20 btdc  close 50 abdc  lift 7.70mm
 YH400-132-00   EX         50 bbdc          20 atdc       7.50mm

Road Special                   15                  45              7.20
 YH400-131-01               45                  15              6.90

Degree readings are taken at 1mm valve lift with tappets set at street clearances.

As taken from my catalogue. I don't have a card though, just the card for my CB750 Daytona Special cam.

Are you running CR29's on it? The catalogue lists 29's plus other stuff.

754 The mag isn't going to be for sale ever probably ! lol.
Jerry thanks for the cam card my pop swears its a Yoshima cam and Yoshimura 492cc piston kit. 40 yrs is a long time to remember things though memory might be wrong lol, Maybe it is the Ontario grind you listed and not a Kaz Yoshima (OMT) cam as he remembers. Will compare specs to what was measured see if they are the same ! There are 29 cr's on it the original 29's were sold some time ago.

you might want to check the cycle magazine article on the yoshima bike, there might be figures there.

now, this might not be the answer you look for, but there's nothing holly about "official" cam card numbers, it's a starting point, you advance and retard around those numbers according to specific use (street, RR, drag...) , build, vale to piston clearance, etc.

and in any case, lobe center numbers are more important than open-close

would start with a symmetrical lobe center, say 104-104, or 105-105 or whatever that cam gives, (with a sohc your hands are tied...) and fine tune from there.

Yes , It is a Joe Hunt, I was surprised to see it on a 400 ! What do you think of it?

I already have one, May need remagnetizing, but my theory is 2 bikes with Webers and Magnetos is better than having only one .

Sounds the best approach to me, I can't find Yoshima cam specs anywhere and they are not in the Cycle World article either https://s3.amazonaws.com/sohc4-articles/CB400/1977_CW_Yoshimas_Business_Card.pdf

Really interesting bike anyway. I'm intrigued by the extended clutch cover mod, and whatever is happening on the intake manifolds, those box structures. Hopefully we'll see more of it soon.

The bikes are cool ! Been drooling over them since I was a Kid bought my Pops the CR's to put on white bike so he actually ride the thing lol. Still can't scrounge up a cam card crap ! lol. Figured be able to find somebody that had one on hear.  I searched for a few hours read most of the magazine articles with no luck as well. I under stand the cam card isn't the end of were opening/closing numbers etc. can be set but  Manufactures specs as reference always good. The thing runs fine pulls from 7 to 12+ no problem. Actually amazing how much you can change the power range, cranking compression with different lobe centers dohc bikes are nice for that !

Thanks for the ID pop did say Joe Hunt I still don't believe what he tells me lol. Said for the time when mag was new liked it never had problems. The brown bike is mostly early K I believe. Only rode it once it is fast ! Was built by a good friend of my fathers acquired it when he passed. That needs to get dug out and ridden to ! lol.
