Hot rod drag week/ gives me ideas, sohc bike week?
« on: September 11, 2017, 08:48:58 PM »
I went to cordova dragway to drag week today, They race there, go to St. Louis, then Byron Ilinois, then Union Grove Wis. then back to cordova on friday.
There were lots of fast cars. All of them aren't experienced racers however. There was a lot of tire spin, wheelies, bent axles, gassers, sporty cars, Vettes, Camaro's, Trucks, more Mustangs, Falcons and Fairmonts than I've seen in years. I met a lot of guys from all over the world and on the way home there was a broken down car about every 10 miles on I74. I think the first leg will thin the herd a lot
We stopped to help three but mostly they had it handled. There's a pair of girls and a couple other cars in the local farm store parking lot looking for LS chevy valve springs. So far, no help there.
We could even race on Sunday, ride/camp all week and end up at a Saturday race. Maybe spectate at a dirt track car race or something on a Friday night.
 Ideas?

Byron Dragway near Rockford Illinois has a small state park nearby with short sections of scenic riding, and is an awesome track. they race on Saturday and Sunday, Cordova Drag strip is an hour or so away from Byron and north of there is the Missippippi river road. They race on Saturday evening most weekends but there are two day races recently.
We wouldn't be big enough for a weekday track rental but still is something to talk about.
Maybe a Saturday day drag race at Byron (no lights), evening at Cordova (they race in the evening) and back to Byron for Sunday. Not much riding there though,
I'll look into scenic routes, Earlvile Iowa has a nice drag strip and some scenic roads. Maybe we could follow US30 between some tracks or follow the river road to Madison Il. where the St. Louis track is. IA. 61 along the river is a nice ride and there's a sweet section of road between st louis and the Mo. capitol, kind of a mini tail of the dragon. I rode it on the sohc world tour.
