Simply because the 2 is attached to the parenthetical sum. 6 / 2(1+2) = x

Calculator is wrong. Besides, IF it were on a test, calculators not allowed.

Just for sh*ts and giggles - do it on a scientific calculator.

Personally I still think the "answer" is 1 - and I would still throw it back to you if that's what you provided in a memo/report.  But what do I know, I'm just an engineer.

Punched it into excel for fun, formula is problematic. However, if this is the standard calc I guess I have to say, ok, I'm wrong.

Still, bad formula.

I prefer the second formula. Ignorance is bliss.
