get it or run away screaming?
« on: September 17, 2017, 09:59:14 PM »
A guy I know has a 74 cb750 with title. For sale, $200 firm. Spent a good part of it's life in a cement block building next to a tractor tire filled with chloride. All chrome is extremely rusty and the left side of the motor ain't pretty as in, white and chalky. The carb slides are stuck but on the up side it is all there and the motor isn't stuck.
I'm leaning towards no since I already have a multitude of parts bikes and projects.

What say ye? Yea or Nay?

I'm going with Nay... I too have too many broken bikes for one person, and I'd say he should be paying you to take it in that condition. :)

It won't get any better if it stays there.

A parts bike at the very least for $200. I actually need a #4 657B carb body. Let the parting out begin :D

Wish deals like this came up near me.

I've seen frame only with clear titles posted on the Michigan Craigslist anywhere from $150-300.  I'm not sure what they have actually sold for, but if you're going to part it out anyway, most of your return can be realized with the frame.

Yep. Tank? Side covers? Gauges? Carbs? Seat? Engine internals? Even with throwing away the chrome you would net some cash/useable parts. Someone will give you $100 (or more) for a titled frame.

I think cases, head, cam rockers and cradles , and tranny will get your money back plus some.

I posted rolling frames with title here for $150 and didn't get a nibble, hence my reluctance. I recently sold bikes, I needed the space and was looking like a hoarder.

Yea...for $200 or maybe less why let it rot there. Deserves better. If you don't have room for it to sit while you part it out Don why not let one of us buy it? Pics would really help. I've never parted out a complete bike...could be fun. And I would get the #4 carb to James :)

Frames I think are hit and miss -- I've sold a few (I don't think a 750 frame, though) and part of it is sitting on it until someone needs one (if you have the space...).

No worries, I stumbled on 2 SOHC4's within a couple hundred miles of Chicago, a '75 750F and a '76 550K. Neither as cheap as $200, but both under $500 (well the 750 is currently posted a bit over $500, but that guy is on drugs if he thinks his bike is worth what he is asking).
