Wiring harness help - old post from Hondaman
« on: September 20, 2017, 03:09:37 PM »
Just realized I'd posted in another forum where it would not get as much attention.

I'm stuck with signals on solid (only the left ones when I select left, and right when I select right) after taking Hondaman's advice on jumping black to brown in the linked post

That post only applies to the EMGO replacement wiring harnesses that appeared in 2012. I don't know if their modern ones are the same, still?

The turn signals receive power from the turn signal flasher, when the L or R is selected. On most, this is a Grey wire from the flasher (Black feeds it) to the headlight, where it then goes to the L-R switch. From there, the Light Green (or Light Blue) or Orange go to the turn signals. If the bike's main ground is poor, or if the battery voltage is less than 10.2 volts at the bulbs, they won't draw enough current to make the flasher flash.

Thanks Hondaman.  On my wiring harness bought in the last few months it was certainly the case that the brown wire had no connection in the bucket.  I ended up jumping one of the two blacks from the harness to the loose brown, finally ensuring that the black coming from the left side switch had no accessories attached, and the problem is solved.  I believe I was previously providing power to the turn signal wires via the left switch harness inadvertently.

Anyway, all electrics are good now!  Just need to figure out my rear disc on an F arm and a K frame and my 2nd build is all finished!

When did you get this wiring harness? Was it recently? I haven't seen any other posts like it lately.

My CB750 K6-76 has a jumper between black and brown in the headlight bucket. Easy to miss when connecting it again after removed it from bike when painting the frame.
It is a original Honda harness. It's also visible in the diagram. Euro bike, blinkers works as blinkers only.
