550F Seat Pan Painting
« on: September 22, 2017, 12:56:05 PM »
All,

I recently bought a seat on EBay. Not bad shape for the $.  The pan has some minor surface rust. I am going to sand rust and repaint. Any suggestions on...
- paint ( just black or some sort of ecoat in a can?)
- sand grit ( or should I spray with some sort of biting primer first?)

Thanks
Ace

So after you've got the rust ground down.  1st coat use a rust inhibiting primer.  Let dry, sand smooth up to 400.  Spray gloss black and be done.  Go ride

Paint will need a cure time to either catalyze or outgass its solvent carriers.
If you apply foam or covering fabric too soon, it will adhere using the paint as a glue.

Two part paints need a week, as a rule. Aerosol spray cans  need a month to harden.

Thanks all. Getting started today.  No rush the bike isn't driveable yet anyways.  Mainly bought the seat so that the bike looks a little more complete. When rubbing and scrubbing you start feeling like you will never be done. Was looking for some motovation.
