First gear fail!
« on: September 23, 2017, 04:42:17 PM »
Be kind... Was at a stop light today on a hill went to pull away and stalled the damn thing (first time). Tried to remain composed and not show embarrassment to the line of cars behind, started the bike and tried again and got a bit of a very slight juddery start (I was flustered at that point).

My question is - would that harm the engine at all?

As in, I assume that pulling away in first using the clutch and not a lot of throttle and having it bog down a tiny bit, is not the same as “Lugging” the engine up a hill in 6th gear with a WOT, right?

Well your bikes okay - even if your pride and certainty aren't.

Don't be embarrassed as everyone here has done this at least once; even if we won't admit it.
Laugh at least once a day.

If it's a really steep incline, you can drag the rear brake just a little bit to help you get going without rolling backwards, too.
I wouldn't worry about the juddering.
