Who makes decent replacement carb rubbers?
« on: September 30, 2017, 11:31:30 AM »
When I redid Mayble 2 years ago I purchased new manifold rubbers and carb to air box rubbers.   I've been playing with my jetting getting it tuned in and I see cracks in the manifold rubbers and the air box rubbers are cracked all to hell...to the point of needing replacement AGAIN.

I would think at the prices they ask for this stuff they would be better quality.

OEM are expensive. Mine were all hardened and so I finally bit the bullet and got new ones. They've been on a few years and show no sign of damage. Did you buy OEM?

Honda still sells these - I just replaced mine. They aren’t cheap, but if the remakes fail after a couple years they are for sure worth it.

I bought carb boots from Cruzinimage. They were really cheap but not in the long run since I saw deep cracks after one summer.
Honda boots have never cracked on my bike. Replaced to get fresh soft rubber only. Honda for double price last minimum 10 times longer. Easy mathematics.

Honda carb boots are stiffer too. Cheap ones pulsate when engine is running.

I had aftermarkets on my 750 that failed in two or three years. Replaced them with OEM and been good ever since.

I had Cruzinimage replacements that were poor fit and even poorer finish. I also purchased OEM Honda, finish was better but fit was so tight it took forever to get the carbs on.  So..........my answer is nobody....Larry

+1 buy Honda...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-New-750-Carburetor-Intake-Boot-Carb-Insulator-CB750F-77-78-16211-410-000-/221567652138?hash=item339676112a:g:GTIAAOxyGqZSaXXx&vxp=mtr

Cheap Chinese Crap ends up costing more...

 ???  ???  ???

Quoted directly from the ad you linked to:

"This is a Brand New Set of Aftermarket Honda Carburetor to Cylinder Head Insulator Manifold Boots"

The problem with the K7, K8, and F2 is that Honda does not have any inventory left (unavailable). C.I.'s boots are known to fail quickly. I am currently using Vintage CB750's carb manifolds purchased almost 3 years ago with over 3000 trouble-free miles.

I believe the airbox boots can still be sourced from Honda.

They are tight - they're supposed to be. I lube the insides with Armorall, straddle the bike and go for it. Works for me.

Did all that and still had a heckuva time, even had to use a heat gun. Not happy with the fit.   This was on a 900C BTW...Larry

Once the replacements have cracked it's too late, but when I was tearing my carbs out I winter greened the originals--worked great.  I hate to give up on original parts.

There are methods to be used on tight fits, not want to allow....
1.) White wine with shrimps +  some side dishes, romantic lights and soft music. Real French Champagne make good mood!
2.) Heat gun warming them up and carbs will penetrate all 4 really easy.

I think that method 2 is the right procedure in this case. ;)

78, OEM's are no longer available.  Guess I'll just bite the bullet every couple of years, but you would think for $25 each they would be better quality.
