Good friend of mine called me this morning, and posed this question to me. Its a tough one...

well, since i've seen ford holding hands with george W... i'm gonna go with james brown.

even if you respected both men equally (which is hard for me to imagine- godfather of soul versus president for two years whos only claim to (in)fame(y) is pardoning nixon) but even if, then you would have to go to the one that would be the better party...

Hmm... Eagle Scout, WWII vet, UM graduate and star football player, Yale Law School graduate, Congressman, etc, etc. Or singer, songwriter, convicted of armed robbery, domestic abuse, and drug abuse (among other things). I'm gonna have to go with Mr. Ford.

Probably better music at James Brown's funeral though.

I'll have to go with Rushoid. Sad thing is, James Brown had a far bigger impact.

I agree with Rushoid and medic, besides, even though I liked some of James Brown's music,
he was kind of wild, spent some time in prison and who knows what else. Thing is, Ford didn't ask
to be President, he just happened to be the next one up, after it was all said and done.

i guess that all comes down to whether you respond well to the darling of authority- boy scout, captain of the football team, cia stooge, warren report forging, nixon pardoning, tow the party line whether you think its wrong or not mentality, or whether you get off on that troubled rebel thing, growing up poorer than poor, fighting to be recognized, changing musical history forever, breaking the law, beating women, fathering way too many babies, i am either god or a space alien mentality. either one is extreme enough to get these guys recognized nationally. what a great country that holds both of these ideals up as transcendent.

i still think the godfather would have a better party
remember its not who do you like more- its which funeral you would attend...

Good point. I guess I'd go to Gerry's funeral to pay my respects first. Then swing by the Brown "fun"eral later for the food, drink, music, PCP, and fighting later.

Are they having the service at the same time as the New Year's party?

I live in Grand Rapids, Fords home town, so going to the funeral is no big deal...Poor guy, they're having a viewing at the Ford Museum, then taking him outside and burying him in the yard!
Now James...that would be a good funeral!

By the way...what was james's last tour before he went to prison?

Why, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi of course!

Had not even heard that Ford was dead - did not even make the news in Australia - Brown did, and then it got repeated fiteen times during the day on all stations - not one word for Ford..

I'm not going to either - that should also be a choice??

My uncle used to put dead Fords in his back yard.

Had a good profile on Gerald Ford on History Channel Wednesday night. Knew pardoning Nixon was political suicide but decided the country needed to move on. Time proved he was right. A decent man. Took courage for Betty to do what she did. Helped a lot of people.

with all due respect, if there's any room in Mr Fords coffin there are quite a number of NZed politicians that wouldn't look out of place in there.
I would pop into James Brown party for the club sandwiches and sausage rolls, a bit of music then leave before the shoot out
