Rickman project
« on: July 24, 2017, 09:46:28 AM »
Hi all,
I'm not altogether new to the forum but for some reason I could not log on with my username and passwords. Unable to ask anyone on the forum as I couldn't get in I decided to register again.
Probably something I did I'm sure but anyway I'll start again with the latest update of my 1979 Rickman CR750 project.
The frame has been re nickel plated
The engine is almost built
Most parts are now restored and the paintwork is in the process
I'll post some pictures along the way once the moderator approves

38mm Betor double disc forks and Morris wheels look excellent on this one. I am a huge fan of Rickman kits and have everything but a frame to build one of my own.

Please share as many details and pictures as you can stand. There are far too few special frame projects on the forum.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

The frame was in pretty poor condition when I stripped it, I think the bike didn't leak oil so the frame stayed dry and it pitted, before I sent it away for re nickel I spent many hours rubbing down by hand all the parts I could reach then it went away was polished and re plated. Nobody wanted to re plate this as it was a larger and heavier frame than they wanted to handle but I had put so much parts there way in the past they were duty bound to do it... at a cost I might say.
The end result was very good with just a few areas only average.

Bike and engine were a little sad and needed a full restoration
The engine did turn over well but had been standing for years.

The F2 engine stripped, I had it aqua cleaned, and with most new parts I rebuilt it with a Wiseco 836cc big bore kit.
Carbs came back last week

Using a dummy engine I could pre fit an original style Honda 4-4 exhaust system to replace the original tatty looking 4-1 system. It aligned really well and the quality of the system is 100%.
The dummy engine also allowed me to re make all the engine spacers and bolts this frame had from mild steel to polished stainless steel

Thanks, the workshop area also houses some other bikes, mainly nortons. Jap bikes are pretty new to me, I fancied a change

A few up to date photos of the Rickman build.
Engine is now 'sort of ' installed, trial fitting of the bodywork less the tank which after 26 weeks is still waiting to be made ( 4 weeks aprox.)

A couple more photos.
Exhaust is from David Silver in the UK its from on there 1974 models, it fits the79 Rickman a treat , just need to remove the exhaust studs and fit c/sunk screws, everything else lines up.
The paintwork letters and stripes are airbrushed on Not stickers.
The tank is still on order
