Wishing Mike Rieck a speedy and healthy recovery
« on: October 03, 2017, 06:29:06 pm »
I just wanted to wish Mike Rieck a speedy and healthy recovery from the SOHC4 crew.

He emailed me today letting me know he tripped over a fence and dislocated his shoulder and fractured the head of his humerus. He will be out of commission for at least 4 weeks.

Get well Mike!

for those that do not know him, He's the guy that 95% of the SOHC guys send their heads to for porting. And he does immaculate work.

Ouch! He wasn't trying to chew gum at the same time, was he?  ;)

Seriously though, sorry to hear you've been injured. You and Bill can compare battle scars. Hope you get to feeling better soon, we've got engines to build!

Heal quickly, and hire somebody to fix the fence next time.  8)

Speedy recovery Mike, don't enjoy those painkillers too much...
You sound like me, if you are going to get hurt you don't do it half-way...

Hang in there!
Any author's new books out you are into?
Should someone send you one of Tamiya's 1/12 Motorcycle plastic kits?  If you port the heads on it we are going to want to see photos of it and all the other motor work...we also expect you to make it possible to rotate the crank and see the pistons go up and down.

I wich you a quick recovery Mike! I understand the pain  :'( :'( ??? ???

I dislocated my left shoulder 1985, my entire arm look like it has fallen out of its joint, possible to put a finger in there.  Horrible pain. :'( I have after that got it dislocated at least 20 times since I did not fix it (surgery add some stopper + shorten the tendon(s). If I rotate the left arm a little upwards or have my arm in wrong angle, left shoulder will dislocate.

Worst memory when I had parked my car, fix the belt on it hanger and the arm dislocated from shoulder. What a pain during 20 minutes it took for me to creep out from the car. When my arm/shoulder is dislocated I need to relax it and hang forwards, twisting the arm in right direction and it will come back in position. Pain is awful!

Important for me to use correct arm when taking a fishing rod appart and the upper part of rod will pop out very abrupt together with a quick heavy dislocation!!  :( :( :(
//Per

I hope this will not delay your planned Dyno runs!

Thanks fellas....very much appreciated. ;)
Per is right....the pain is staggering. Than to have to sit for hours in an ER before any meds was torture. Then transferred via ambulance to another hospital because the first did not have anybody on staff to reduce the dislocation. Had to go another 2 hours with no pain meds. Boy it sucked.
Tripped over an 18" high chicken wire fence around the vegetable garden. Cleared it with the right foot but snagged my left foot. Fell down hard and my shoulder slammed into the foundation of the house. I heard a pop and a cracking sound and the rest is history. Feeling better today...pain is down considerably. Have to go to an orthopedic surgeon in a few days to see about the fracture.....it may require surgery.
Thanks again for thinking of me.

Heal up Mike.  Shoulders are the worst.  Did mine a few years ago (rugby) and got it fixed via surgery.  Couldn't lay down to sleep for weeks because of the pain.  Had to sleep sitting up, with the shoulder wedged into the corner of the couch for support.  Good luck!
