Free is good.
 I got a 72 CB500 that way.
How do the wires look? The wires get real hard and most of the time need's replaced. From what I remember from my 500 last year.
Are you running stock ignition?  How are the point's?
 Is this your first bike?

How did you determine there was no spark?
It won't spark without a charged battery, you know.
Probably want to check the handlebar kill switch.  Must be in the run position.
Are you getting 12 v across the open points?
Are your spark plugs shorted?

So many questions.  You need to elaborate a bit more.
Or, increase your mental projections so that we may hear you better.  :)
