I'm thinking of getting another Sportster. I know . . . . .  I have a couple already, but I think another , set up to perform more like the CB750F . . is what I would like. So the question to you guys is . . . what do you think this '77 F is worth . .with the custom work done to it, but only 12k MILES, no issues at all  ??????????

Don't look like a F model. Paint job looks good if you like green. Good luck with sale

Yeah that's a k tank.

$3500-$4k - any higher and you'll be at "dealership" prices.

Nice bike.

You on the E Coast? And close to winter, bad time to sell a bike. Like most vintage bikes, worth what someone will pay for it.  Doubting $4K, but maybe $3000-3500 if you can find someone to fall in love with it.
"Custom" bikes are generally worth less than totally stock bikes.

PS. Did you see the recent thread here about Sportsters?

This is Pete's custom build bike. 78F but made to look like a K.

I'd say $3000-$4000.

Like Stev-o said, stock bikes are more desirable than custom builds for re sale.

I was thinking  . . . . no way less than $3500. I just wouldn't do it.  I was thinking $3500-$4000 is the range. So it seems I'm in the same ball park with some of you guys. It really is a great bike.

LOT more than just an F tank  :)  But I understand someone else has to like the look of the early bikes with the performance mods of the '77 F. With the triple disc and the CB900 calipers, it really brakes like a sport bike.

That's nothing new . . . hell my bike was originally bought for  the sellers wife. She didn't want it, I bought it. However, neither would recognize it now from when they had it. Since when is putting the power in a lighter, more manageable frame a chick thing ?  LOL Isn't that what a muscle car is ??  Friend owned a 1340 something Harley. . .Cross Bones I think . . . had work done to it to increase the HP, etc, etc. He had his wife on his and I had my wife on my Sporty. Lets just say he was a bit embarrassed as we both lit it up going down the road :)

It only has 12K miles.

You're aware that the 77-78 750 F engines had premature valve guide issues?  I've got two of these motors.  Both low miles.   :o
I live in fear for them.  Even though they show no ill signs.

Your bike looks very nice.  Nicer than my 750Fs, for sure.

I have a couple of Harley's and I think the Sportster is very underated as a bike, has better power than the big twins down low but the big twins take over when they get going a bit higher in the rev range. I would like an old 50's Sportster but they are getting expensive now in Australia

I'm sure it's difficult to get the money back on a repaired/restored bike. It cost more than people want to pay. Sandcast's might be an exception for the moment.  Or a stock K0-K6 with small jobs done.

This can change in 10 years and maybe less interest of these bikes.

I was offered 4k for my fairly stock spray bombed 500 so I'm sure you can get what you are wanting to get...depending on your platform and time frame. I love super sports but once I get beyond a super sport tank it loses me, so I like the idea of swapping on a k0-6 style tank...those are my favorite and is something I would do. I wouldn't try to sell until after Christmas or something though. I didn't see much besides cosmetic upgrades outside of the calipers in the picture album so the real draw for this bike is the low miles, I feel like you will have more interest as well because of the k0-6 style look of the bike. Im in Michigan and all there is are #$%*ing Harley's around here, I have had zero interest in those bikes except for the really old ironhead and knuckleheads. Deciding to take on one of those projects is the only way I see myself messing with a HD. I know a lady who told me not to get a sportster because they are a woman's bike, too small, yada yada and to get something bigger. She also said that Hondas were what she learned on as a little girl and that I should upgrade to a "big boy" Harley. Thats exactly (and partially) the mentality that most HD riders have and a reason why I'm not drawn to them...mostly the people who are on them. I'm not into most modern bikes period, but I've seen some neat sportsters ripping around town...I don't hate them but I don't love them. I think they are neat bike for someone just starting and wanting something reliable though.

I took that Sporty in the pic to a bike run . . lots of big $$$ Harleys. I was extremely pleased with my '57 Tribute I built. I got a lot of attention, nice comments etc. I felt bad ( not really ) for the $25K-$50K Harley owners whom nobody gave a damn about their bike. I have so little in that one . . it's embarrassing  :) But the other owners were  nice, not a problem.

this ^^^
that mentality is fuking lame.  don't scoff at some dude on a "smaller" bike or even a moped.  it has two wheels and a motor also.  be polite and respectful to all riders.  what i find funny about those harley folks that say "ahh that's a girl's bike" is look at how low they sit on the seat.  they look like they're sitting on an adult sized tricycle.  probably have a load of adult diapers in the saddle bag.  but i digress.

Those Harley chopper guys that could comment the CB750 and similar bikes with funny words in the early 80's  have different comments today when they see a good looking CB750. Most of them had friends that had one in the early days, often 69-70 bikes. All those guys are older men, grey/silver hair and retired.

I guess it can be different with younger bikers, they do not know nor seen much. Different if they remember the bikes from the 70's, nostalgic feelings overwhelm them when they see a good old CB, Kawasaki 900 or the 3 piped 2 stroke Kawasaki's.
