engine stamp number
« on: December 27, 2006, 03:39:19 PM »
Just curious, my engine is stamped cb759Exxxxxxxx, but the bike is an F model, was there any correlation between the letter after 750 on the engine and the model number?

I have 2 cb750f engines and the both have a cb750E-XXXX # on them. Not FE as the charts say.
The thing about common sense is that, it's not that common.

Has anyone with a CB750 F, 0, 1, 2, or 3 ever seen an engine number with FE in it? I think that this is one of those errors that someone prints and is copied by everyone else with out checking. There are lots of these engines that are owned by members of this forum. If Honda used FE in any of these someone in the group should have one.

I have never seen any Honda engine without the "E" stamped after the series. Never another letter, and never without the E. AFAIK, that's how all of them are, and it's so you can tell if it's an engine sequence number or the frame number.

I thought the FE's were European or at least not US models. My US 75 SS is E only.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Just as an interesting observation... Mark Haycock's book - Honda CB750, The Complete Story - states on page 102, that upon release in 1975 the US CB750F had engine numbers beginning thus: CB750FE-2500004. He quotes the "FE" throughout the book in regard to the 'F' models throughout the ensuing '76, '77 and '78 model years.

My 'G' frame numbered (General Export) model is not mentioned at all in his book... my engine number also does not contain an 'F' - it has an 'E' only...

I have 2 '76 750F's, and neither one has an "F" in the engine number.

Forgive me breaking the ford engine talk into a separate thread, but I am hoping to get to the bottom of the CB750F engine numbers.  I've always seen reference to the FE designation for these engines which is specified in the Honda Model Guide - is it wrong even there?  I'm going to look through the data I have to see if it contains the answer, but would appreciate it if someone who knows chimes in.

It might be a Euro thing, my 400 engine is stamped CB400FE XXXXXX

My 1976 CB750F1 engine number is CB750E (Frame is CB750F), but strangely my 1977 CB750F2 engine number is B750GE (Frame CB750G), both are UK bikes.
