CB750F0 Starter delete
« on: October 08, 2017, 11:10:35 AM »
I'm installing the 'generator' on my crankshaft now and will not be using the starter motor so I'll also leave out the starter gear.  I have an aluminum spacer (from Cycle-X) to take the space of the starter gear but it has a slightly narrower diameter than the gear it will 'replace'.  Does this spacer also require that seal?  That would make it about 1mm too wide though..
I don't understand the importance of using this spacer at all since the generator rotor tightens again the cone shape end of the crankshaft.  Ideas?

It probably cover the oil hole in the crank. Withoit it gets some pressure loss..and sprays more oil over the wiring.

Oh that makes sense Frank.  So do you think I should run this spacer and then the seal? It would probably squish down as the generator tightens on if need be eh?  Here's a pic for comparison.

I wouldn't worry about the seal. I suspect it was to keep oil off the rollers so they can grip while starting.
Do you have a starter hole plug , I still have some.

Ok, I'll leave that seal out then.  That spacer is a tight fit btw.  Another question:
Will there be a problem leaving those rollers in as is?  I went to remove them and see those JIS screws are punched pretty good so they'll be a bear to get out.
Yes, I have a plug for the starter hole,  It's aluminum with an o-ring that simply presses in and it also has a smaller threaded brass center plug with pipe thread which I'm not sure what the purpose is.
Thank you!

The rollers, springs, and cup over end of the spring will amost fall out. Get it out and bag and label it.
The pipe plug is for an optional vent hose, should you choose to run one.

I'm glad I asked!  Thanks again Frank.  I'l take out the roller hardware.
As for the vent, I still haven't decided the best way to vent my stock crank case vent off the back of the engine case because my custom oil tank is sealed..  Was thinking about tying it into the vent off of the valve cover and just hanging the hose somewhere since I'm running K&N pod filters.  Should I consider tying in a vent to this starter plug hole as well?
