Dual outlet petcock for '77-78 550K tank
« on: October 08, 2017, 06:59:56 AM »
Probably going to be using a '77-78 K model tank on my next project. Normally, it has a single outlet petcock that is 16 x 1.5 mm. I have the earlier dual inlet carbs.
Any reason I can't use one of these CB350 twin petcocks with the dual outlet? Know of any clearance issues? That would keep me from having to use a T fitting.

Know of any other low profile dual outlet 16 x 1.5 petcocks?

Pingel definitely has a couple dual outlet options that can be considered low-profile, and they'll make it in whatever thread diameter you want.

Yeah, the more I think about it, those CB350 twin petcocks hang pretty low. Probably interfere with the head on a 550.

Is the thread pattern on the 77-78 K different than the 75-77 F which uses the same basic tank? My '75F has dual outputs.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think it is. I think the thread is different.

77-78 CB tanks have a smaller bung than 75-76 tanks.  Something like 5/8 rather than 3/4, or a metric equivalent.  Prior CB Four models (72-74) in the US has the two screw fittings, and a sediment bowl.

I could not find a pingle solution for the 77-78 types.  I did find a CX500 tank valve that fit the 77-78 tanks.

I don't know why you are avoiding the T fitting.  The 77 CB550F came with that set up in stock form.  Works fine.

The dual output petcock used on many early Honda twins fits the 77/78 550K tank and doesn't fowl anything -  achieving a downhill run with the fuel lines may be difficult though. I subsequently found an 'F" tank so I never ran it like this...

I thinkntge thread sizesxare 16mm  and 19mm.  19 is the one you cant adapt to a Pingle  . I did make a few adaptors, wish I had one for my 1975 tanks.
