Here's actual Patriotism... never played before any 'internal ' game ( NFL ) only when opposing another country... unknown in the U.S., or actually hijacked years and years ago. The people don't own their National Anthem... so sad     Cardiff Arms Park , Wales. 70,000 Welsh proudly and loudly singing their National Anthem, Americans will never experience this as a nation.. sad.   Never seen Americans standing for any National Team like this, the real use of the National Anthem... sob. So take your flags off the back of your trucks/cars/ motorcycles, ya can't show your Patriotism among your own.. never ..have to show it to the world in a sincere way... not 70 years of violence around the globe, just sayin'

Eh, about as far as my allegiances go I will defend my city and if I really had to my state.
You can take your nationalistic, jingoistic, claptrap balderdash hooey because all it does is cause problems.

As expected, you all miss the point completely. Actual love for one's country has nothing to do with 'nationalism' , nor is it 'jingoistic' or 'balderdash... oh, the propagandized masses. Patriotism first and foremost is completely non aggressive and honors the place you were born and grew up in, nothing else !

By 'place' I mean country, not 'town' or State... sheesh.  If you love your country you would stand and sing the National Anthem... but only at international events ( Sports mostly ) and that's the place to show it and it's very powerful to witness a nation doing it !!, except America because the Anthem was hi-jacked years ago.... fcuking sad

I equate 'Nationalism' with 'Sexism' or 'Racism'  - the belief that your nation, race, gender is superior.  Whereas 'Patriotism' is love for your country without necessarily believing it to be better.

Dreadfully sad, Spanner. And in the days when I grew up (about the time Abe Lincoln was walking barefoot to the local senate) we also stood, placed our hand over our heart, and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag every morning that was in each and every classroom. You have no idea how dreadfully sad it is to see national pride withered away by "media facts".

I'll jump into that fire with you, Nobody. Whether or not "God" blesses only America is unlikely, but we (USA) were founded on principles of rights endowed by a Creator and not granted by Man. It's a very nice place to be, not perfect by any means, but perfectly good and better than most.

Nationalism gets a bad rap these days -- without it, almost all of North and South America, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Africa would still be under colonialism. Patriotism generally assumes the state, nationalism is the desire to create one consistent with the "nation." And sure, it can be bad as well -- white nationalists in the USA desire a state consistent with what they see as their "white nation," and nobody but them thinks that's a good thing.

Not my fault if you can't read well enough and think what I wrote meant that all American national pride is race-based. I used white nationalism in the US as an example, and if you don't think white nationalism in the US is a problem right now (and most Americans also view it as a problem) there is little I can do to help you. I never said that "white nationalism" = American patriotism. I'm all ears for you to teach me something I don't know about nationalism, though. Should be good.

Cool. Perhaps next time instead of reacting with bombast and (misplaced) righteous indignation take time to understand the conversation, use those reading skills, and maybe wait a second before you chime in with anger.

One of the reasons I like SOHC over some of the others is that this #$%* doesn't usually happen over here, there's less of a "tough guy," angry knee-jerk response to most stuff because, really, most of us are here because we all like the same kind of motorcycles. We should be able to have differences of opinion (although this clearly wasn't one, you simply didn't understand what I was saying) without getting aggro.
