Is this the right Shorai battery to get?
« on: October 19, 2017, 09:49:37 AM »
I want to hide a small battery under the seat hump on my kick-start only CB750.

You want the "+" to the right of the battery when terminals are closest to you.  Your + lead is to the rear of the bike and "-" is on the front end when looking at the left side of the bike with the seat up.

Thanks for the info.  I'll be mounting it under the rear seat hump.
According to Shorai, the one to get is this one:

It says 14AH but lithium batteries put out about a third of that number apparently.

Awesome battery!  Same one working great 7 years later.  Get the Shorai charger too.  The usual regulator rectifier works with it perfectly.

I've also used the small case Shorai for about the same time as Johnny, and it spins the electric starter on my high compression 836 just fine: the large case is the same battery in a bigger case to fit into stock battery boxes.
I don't recommend the stock mechanical regulators, as they tend to cause higher voltage spikes when the points open and close. The optimum charging voltage is 14.4V. The standard Rick's solid state reg can over-charge these batteries to 15V. Rick's also makes a lithium specific reg, but it sets the voltage near the minimum recommended voltage.
You can use a standard charger, but you have to be very careful. You can murder any battery, but lithium batteries are much less forgiving, and mistakes are more expensive than lead acid, but at least the Shorai LiFe batteries are not prone to meltdown like LiPo batteries. :o
