Are there a List of Carb Numbers?
« on: November 12, 2017, 08:38:14 AM »
My carbs appear to be 069A.  Is that right for CB550F 77.  When looking for seals and gaskets do we go by the bike year/model or carb numbers for more accurate description?

Thanks

Generally you order carb parts based on the bike model and year.
Again, generally, the only difference in carbs between model years is the jetting and settings.
There's some more info in this thread.

The Honda shop manual lists carb numbers and specs.

Suppose you acquire a Honda and you want to learn more about your bike (let's take the CB550 for an example), this is what you can do:
step 1: write down the engine-, and framenumber.
step 2: go here: http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/parts-list/parts-list-cb550 to find the parts list for your particular model.
Note that there were two groupes of CB550: the models with 4-4 exhausts, the socalled "K" models and the models with a 4-1 exhaust, the socalled "F" or Super Sport models. You will discover there were all in all no less than 8 models:
CB550K
CB550K1
CB550K2 ('76)
CB550K3
CB550K4
CB550F
CB550F1
CB550F2
You select the appropiate list by comparing your engine-, and framenumber to the engine-, and framenumbers that are listed in the first few pages of every parts list. There you'll also find the carbnumber that is supposed to be on your bike and you'll also learn what 'area code' your bike is and what differences that brings compared to models for other markets and what colors that particular model came in. Piece of cake. The 'year' tells us nothing.
In the same site you'll find Owner's Manuals (to be completed!): http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/libretti-uso-a-manutenzione
and various shop manuals: http://www.honda4fun.com/materiale-documentazione-tecnica/shop-manual

Thanks all,

As I read the manuals from the hyper links it appears I have a 1977 CB550F2 4 into 1 bike.  As for the area code, these seem a little confusing as the engine/frame number ranges over lap from place to place.   So hard to say.  In any case the manuals do show 069A carbs.

All us model cb550f bikes used 069A configuration/ setup carbs.  They work well with the stock exhaust and air induction system.  Changes to the latter and the internal carb set up will be wrong.

All CB550F models used the 069A carbs anywhere. There is some doubt however on the F2's setting. It could be that, in spite the number 069A remaining the same (unusual), the needle position and/or standard airscrew setting was changed in comparison to earlier models, this to meet new ruling on emissions. As far as the area codes, just go through your parts list and you will see the differences noted with the area codes on various pages.
