I bought a '74 CB550. It originally was a very tough start. I rebuilt the carbs, and it starts nice now. However, when I rev up on the throttle, it would sometimes not rev back down - usually sat at 3000-4000 RPM. Looking into it further, it appears a previous owner modified the bracket that is used to adjust the throttle position. The return cable was zip-tied up and the bracket is cut.

Why would anyone do this? Is this something CB550 owners have done previously to modify something? What's the name of the bracket, or can someone point me in the direction to buy another one (site and/or part number)? I've searched Google with no good results.

is this it?  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/77-HONDA-CB550K-CB550-CB-550-550K-CARBURETOR-THROTTLE-CABLE-HOLDER-BRACKET-/301311045225

That might be it! I've been struggling with keywords. I'll use this to see if I can find out if it's the same part for the '74. Thanks.

it seems from the cmsnl schematic that it's part of the carb holder rack.  you may not be able to find it as an individual part unless ebay or someone with a stock pile.  check with "harisuluv" also.  he's a member here.

The bracket has been cut and the "push" cable hung aside. If harisuluv can't help, (probly can) I have one
for cheap.

Not exactly sure what's going on, but you can just use one cable for these, without the return, as the spring is strong enough. But if it's hanging, and looking at that picture, it might be because the return cable is still attached to the throttle housing and it is getting hung up on the zip tie. If you free it from the ties and let it just sit there, the problem might go away.
