Topic: CB 750 ignition points

Hi

parked my bike (CB 750 K2)  next to a car and car driver didn't pay attention and hit my bike. My ignition points cover was the most hit. Since this accident, I have some difficulties to start the bike. I need to push it when its cold for instance and when I stop, engine shut down after a few seconds. Do you think it can be related to this accident or is this a simple coincidence?

Could have shifted the points and changed timing. Or possibly bent the timing shaft. Put a timing strobe light on it and see what you can see. Adjust as needed. Procedure is in the service manual.

   Out of curiosity why do you have to push it,is the engine not turning over with the starter button or start with the kick start ? How does it run when it does get started ?  Is the battery good in it ?

Was your bike picked-up immediately after the accident or has it been lying on its side long enough to allow the battery leak most of its water? Is it possible for you to read the voltage of the battery to give us an indication? A battery that's been at rest for a couple of hours, should read 12,6V minimum.

My ignition points cover was the most hit.

Is there any chance the damaged cover itself allows the points to make (intermittently) ground? Has the impact caused a dislocation of the points and/or their connectors to make - possibly intermittent - ground? Are you able to check and - if necessary - adjust the ignition (pointsgap first and then the timing and all that)? But first, could you make a close-up pic of the ignition, so the experts here can have a look at it and maybe discover if the advancercam is dislocated?

There is a distinction between the crankshaft not turning and the cylinders not firing while it is turning with kick or electric start.

Can you describe or show where the dent in the ignition cover is? Advancer cam seems to be in the right place. Breaker 1.4 and its connections seem OK. However check if its connectors at the back do not ground to the plate. Then check if the connector of the yellow wire at the 2.3 breaker doesn't accidentely ground to the plate. To me it seems dangerously close. If that's OK, you have to look at the battery (check fluid, charge (with max 1,5A), let the battery rest for 2-4 hours and then check if voltage is 12,6 minimum).
