So much for my electric bill
« on: October 22, 2017, 10:28:51 AM »
Dang!

We had a big rainstorm last night and my sump pit did what it's supposed to do.

After I came back from work this morning I discovered that the sump PUMP did not.  I don't know the whole story but when I checked on it, the water in the pit was hot - yes, HOT and the pump was jammed.  So potentially I've had the pump jammed for 12 hours.  I have to tear the whole thing apart and figure out why it's jamming - but I'm dreading that electric bill that's coming my way.

Fortunately I'm rarely home so my bill is pretty small anyway - but this won't help any.

I think something crawled up the outlet pipe and made a home in the backflow valve - my own fault, I haven't been very good keeping the plumbing covered.

I have to tackle that job before the next rain storm moves into the area.

It didn't blow the 15?a breaker, so it will be something less than:

 15a x 120v x 12hr x $0.15?/kWh = $3.24

Think I'd be shopping for a new pump.
How many dollars is that pump protecting?
Lucky you, it didn't flood with a heavy rain and a dead pump.

Well I took a look at it, pulled it apart.

Whew!  Swampy.

Looks like it had hydrolocked, the weep hole was blocked.  I drilled it out to clear it, but I'm going to re-route some of the pipe, plus relocate the check-valve a little higher.

they cant realy hydrolock..the vheel just run..and make the vater sirkulate..and heat up..if the pumphveel stands still ..it often stone or dead rats.or rope..in there..thek the oil ..there is a oil lubed keramic teighting before the engine..in a oil thamber.(.anyvay on all expensive prof pumps)..id there is gray oil there is vater going in..from the auter sealing..a bit gray is ok..but massive glue in there the auter seal must be thanged...
