Kings of Grudge event. Piedmont Dragway
« on: October 22, 2017, 02:34:41 PM »
Well, I finally broke a loosing streak and pulled off a win yesterday at the Kings of Grudge event at Piedmont Dragway. While it was my original intention to race my SOHC in the ET bracket class, I decided to run the wife's drag bike since she decided not to compete. I also entered the 5.60  index class on my car tire bike. Right off the top, we discovered an issue with one of the carbs leaking fuel on the wife's bike so I went into repair mode. After a quick tear down of the problem carb, I fire the bike up but had to then adjust all four to get decent plug color. Gotta love the Lectrons.

I missed the first time run in 5.60 because I was in the pits working but did make the ET time run. The bike ran a 5.43@123mph. Good pass after the quick out work. I did catch the next 5.60 qualifying pass  but was was to quick, running a 5.40 on a 5.60 index. Dang, I forgot to detune it. Made the next ET time run, bike ran a 5.44@124mph.

I detuned my bike to slow it down for first round. Paired with my opponent. We left the line but I realized he red-lighted so I had a free time run. Fortunately for me it wasn't a real race because I still went way to fast, 5.49 on the,5.60 index. We'll, more detuning needed. First round of ET and I took the win running 5.43 on my 5.43 dial in.

I won second round 5.60 but lost on a breakout in 3rd round. I ended up winning the ET bracket race. First place was paying $1000 but I decided to split with the remainder of the racers. It was,a good day.

Good day young man! K. I'm working on a back up bike for Valdosta......78F that Jon rode.  Waiting on pro cut trans gears from Kenny @ Cycle. Points are up. With a good weekend I could break into top ten, tied for 12th right now.

We also went racing yesterday. I was on the F model. Unfortunately the rain came before we could start first round. I'm trying to get more seat time on the bike.  It seems like I only throw a leg over it at the Cup events because I never get a chance to go to test and tune session's anymore. I doubt I'll break the top ten in any class this season. Good luck to run in Valdosta. I'm sure you'll do well.

I know I'm a lucky man. My wife is always supporting me 100%. In this shot from the race this weekend she's behind the bike keeping a watchful eye on my pass to be certain I'm safe. Oh yeah, the bike is hers. She let me borrow it for the day.

That's a fact Jerry and I don't take my good fortune for granted. Some men don't have spousal support in everyday activities, to have a wife that's behind me in all aspects of life is truly amazing and a blessing.

Frank I also meant to say that Gladys may well be a gem like Jerry says....as long as you don't break her bike!  ::)

It's very cool having your significant other involved, racing or otherwise. Just having someone to keep things on track (no pun intended) is priceless.

Yes sir, she is a rare jewel no doubt. As to the bike breaking, I certainly hope it never happens when either of us are racing. I could blame the mechanic I suppose. Uhhh, nope, that won't work- cause I'm head bottle washer and chief mechanic. Hahaha.

Well done FRANK, we did the split thing [ rain out ] at our HALLOWEEN HOOT SHOT OUT Sunday race and me and two LADIES were in the final three all on ST/ET bikes no bars. On this weekend event all bikes PRO = no box, no bars and no elec. run with SUPER PRO box, bars and everything in one class on 1/8 mile.
Never been in a semi with two ladies and I wished the rain stayed away for that race for a Honda-matic, Yamaha, and a Busa  RACE on the 1/8 mile .
