Biased scare tactic article showed its cards in the end

Quote
lulz cryptocoin not gubbimint inshurred go dereted by noob lmbo
(I’ll spare you the homer simpson meme to accompany that)

But I will share the story of how my old man went FULL OLD MAN while setting up his coinbase wallet.

In the middle of completeing i.d. and account verifications on my computer.  The guy decides to go to his computer and login to coinbase while I’m not looking.  Right in the middle of making the initial setup authorizations.  Well this put coinbase on red alert and his credit union subsequently halted transactions as well.
Me; frustrated with the old mans impatient control freaky ways - shouted at him
“YOU JUST FCKING HACKED YOURSELF WHY CAN’T YOU JUST LET ME DO THINGS MY WAY!!”
(I admit the teen angst might have been a bit over the top)

We’ve since unfroze the credit union.  But coinbase is on hard lockdown with really poor access to customer support (i guess that should be part of my coinbase review)

Moral of the story; Never Go Full Old Man.

I’ve officially made my first fraction of a bitcoin!

At home up and running.  In a temporary spot until we have a server room ready for long term ops.

But what did it cost you in electricity to produce that fraction?

The slush pool has a minimum deposit amount of 0.1btc - so it will be a while before i see an actual paycheck from this.  But it could be $700 when I do!

If i wanna get paid quicker - I need more HP

You think you might switch to Bitcoin Gold or cash since coin didn't fork?

I’ve kept an eye on bitcoin cash.  Occasionally it gets a good pumping from the brokers.  The profitability for miners comes and goes with that sort of market manipulation.

I’ve done some calculations and with my 741 processor, it’s a wash.  Wether I join a bch pool or not.
The bitcoin pool I’m in started pretty good.  But over the last 3 days, several thousand miners have come online and caused my share of coin to shrink a little.

Nothing I couldn’t overcome with a little system overclocking!

All-in-all, things are working.  I’ve put in about as much actual work as Terry, and still profiting.

Infographic shows the narrow split between bitcoin and bit-cash.

If you're using your own computer you're doing it wrong.. ;)

I was waiting to learn more about cloud mining.  Read about a guy that turned his website into a “faucet”.  Embedding code into his page that churned coin.

I confess - I thought it could be a convenient way to keep sohc4.net going.

It just went over $9,400!  I used to trade commodities and anything that went straight up like a rocket usually crashed just as hard.

Do you think Bitcoin is in a bubble?

It wasn’t invented to be a broker traded asset.  The pyramid schemes and self-fellating ICO outfits are part of the value manipulation issue.
But the more valuable bitcoin grows the more practical its orginal intended use becomes.
Its gonna be a brilliant move for subway either way.  Someone buys a footlong for $5, two weeks later bitcoin swells and the company has profited an extra buck.
Or it dives and subway ain’t even mad cause sandwich materials are still pretty cheap.

What paying bills or mortgage in bitcoin?  Or simply getting cash?

Bitcoin was developed as a peer to peer payment software.

So its intended purpose is to (for example) allow me to pay Chewy for some of his Parts for sale.
I’d tell chewy I want a 650 cam.  He’d say that’ll be .005btc ($49usd) - then he’d send me a payment request with a bitcoin wallet service and I’d agree to it with my wallet service.  The blockchain miner network processes the transaction.  Chewy gets 5 thousandths of a bitcoin and I get a camshaft.

No banks
No middlemen
No government
Anonymous
“Virtually” free - there is the possibility to speed up payment processing by leaving a tip for the miners.
