It would be interesting how they would treat my 750k1 in California.  I have replacement case with no serial numbers.  :o

Update on Registration.  Went back to AAA today and pointed out that the Minn. Title I have definitely state's the Motorcycle Engine Number which references  the VIN. But as stated earlier, they work within their scope of understanding which is the Frame # matching the VIN. Totally ignorant even after researching VIN's location on either frame or engine.

Even called CHP and explained the Title to them which totally may sense to them.  So have myself scheduled with them next week to verify Title and fill out a vehicle inspection sheet. Then AAA ( DMV ) will accept that.

Just a further inconvenience but will get thru it soon. AAA needs to train their agents better or get out of the business doing DMV work.

What exactly is "AAA" anyway?  Is this some name for the California DMV??
Or is California subbing out their DMV?

Oh well heck, no wonder you're having issues.
So in Cali you can't go directly to the DMV any more?

Yes, you can.  But DMV will suck up hours of your time.  In most transactions, AAA will do the same thing for only minutes of your time.
CA vehicle VINs are based on frame numbers. The titles may also include engine numbers, though.
If your title to transfer doesn't have a frame number, they AAA/DMV need an authority to verify the actual frame number, I.E. the California Highway Patrol (CHP).  Who can also do a stolen vehicle check on the VIN.

Texas has the same procedures/requirements minus the AAA.
Never had to spend that much time at the DMV here, just plenty of money. ::)
Anyway,

Boy. I guess I got lucky. AAA sounds like more of a hassle than the DMV.

Update  :) :) :)

Just for grins I went to another AAA/DMV Service North of me and quite refreshing to talk to an Agent who was on the same page as me. She said in all her 20+ years, "Not All" VIN's match the frame, some match the engine as mine does. She would of Registered my bike right on the spot but didn't have the bike with me at the time. I had made an appt with CHP prior the following week. She did however process the paper work and charged the necessary fees including Title change. Paid her the fees and she issued me a 10 day moving permit.

Drove the bike down to CHP and Officer ran all the #'s and filled out the Vehicle Inspection Sheet. Took paperwork back to AAA ( same agent ). Walked out with New Plates HooRah !
