No worries Don, I hope you got a good payday for that engine! The site crashed yesterday wiping out every post back to December the 10th. Here's a link to the thread: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,169783.msg1970743.html#msg1970743 ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

test pic.

I'm learning how to post pictures without the link,  this is the k2 with a k1 engine and a no number never stamped factory replacement frame. It had awful pullback handlebars with +6 forks.

Nice! But here's a question, how do you know it's not a K1 with an unstamped replacement frame? ;D

True , it has a k2 title and helmet hooks but that's a frame deal.

Early forks, late gauges and light console, late seat latch, engine number begins with 1 not 2 as in k2, late tail light. Who knows. I remember this bike way back into the late 70's and spoke to the engine builder before he passed from als. He didn't remember the cc's, thinks it's an 836. It runs like one, the 4-2 hooker is louder on this bike than it was on the sandcast bike.
I should make a run to the nursing home to see the PO, he was a mechanic before a leg injury took him down.

Ha ha, no worries, the reason I asked was that my first K1 had a lot of K2 bits, but as I knew the second owner who bought it when he was only 15 (rich farm kid) we reckon it was a "transition model" which means that it was a "parts bin special" built by Honda at the end of the K1 model run.

Of course I didn't know this at the time, back in 1980 when I bought it, it was just another CB750, this site has turned us all into "experts".......... ;D

That server post purge blew my mind also. At least it didn't completely wipe out your thread Don.

It's all good. When I stop and think about it, it's mind blowing talking to like minded guys all over the world.

The engine guy that built the 72's motor said they had bought out all of the big bore kits from time to time and had to use what they could get.  I spoke to him often about the sandcast bike sitting in his shop too.  He didn't tell anyone it had any particular value, I always felt like he left it for me to buy at the estate sale. I did.

I'm trying to find a tap for the kawi shock thread, is it just me or is the pitch of metric taps pitch bass ackwards? It seems 1.25 is finer than the 1.5 or 1.75 that I have?

Anyway the progressive shocks are on it but tilted slightly in at the top. They look new for $125 I did ok unless I hate the way they ride. The rubber bushings probably will let it work but I'm not wired that way. I want to make an extension from some chrome moly tubing I have. It's OD fits the shock top but needs drilled and tapped to thread over the frame mounted stud. If it works I may make a dozen or so.

Yeah Don, 1.5 is metric coarse, and 1.25 is metric fine. You can also get it as fine as 1.0 up to around 12mm dia, but for most jap bikes it'll be 1.25. Like you, I'd reckon the shocks could angle in a little on the rubbers, but like you again, I'd make extensions too. We might be "anal" but we're still alive...... ;D

How's the bike coming along Don?? Are you planning to sell, or keep this one. ??

Here's a few action pictures of mine. That wheelie at the 330 mark is when the nitrous kicked in.

My plan was to sell it to help pay for a car chassis. Today I got the new instrument light harness and still no dice. The old male side is blue with corrosion and the bike side of the harness doesn't make contact so no ground. I've seen ground issues enough to know it was in the ground somewhere.

I'd really like to make a 1/4 mile pass or two on it since I haven't gotten the Honda drag bike's issues resolved yet. Yours looks like a blast to ride. That power wheelie must be a gas. Santa brought us a crank gas pump for the race car, should work great on bikes too. I might get another 10 gallon jug to keep the fuel separate.

How long is the swingarm? I'm a big chicken #$%*. I had a 750 with a huge bog, I was PO'ed and cranked the throttle as I dumped the clutch and it caught revs. I'm still not sure how I stayed on it, I went over a hundred feet before I got throttle control.

Don, I can't remember the length of the arm right now. It started as a stock water cooled GSXR1100 arm and I had a friend weld in a pair of adjustable, bolt on blocks removed from my ZX10. I'm using a stock Busa shock with a Katana lower pivot linkage. I think the blocks were 6-9" over stock. I could really use a longer arm on the bike to better control the launches. I'm going to work on that plan during next season. I'll go with chromemoly this time instead of the stock aluminum modification.
On a good pass the bike barely lifts the front wheel. On this pass, I think the final stage of the  multi-stage clutch had completely come in. The clutch pack was starting to wear at that point I believe so strange things happened.

I got the instrument wiring harness and hardware kit from Z1. It still lighting problems so I traced it to the ground in the 9 pin plug, it had no ground continuity through it. I was able to pull the pin on the old bike side and it was blue/green. I scotchbrited it and shot a few doses of contact cleaner on it. Should be ok now, I deduced the harness doesn't have the bulb for the headlight indicator in the tach. I'm still assuming the reserve lighting unit is bypassed anyway.

Don, that is a very nice looking K1/K2 blue bike.  What color is the blue?

I believe it's actually some sort of ford truck blue. The PO had a local body shop paint it after the fibermold tank melted due to gasohol in it. They used an aftermarket bolt on sidecover so I need to figure it out and paint a new frankenbikes cover.

The KZ's dash panel is all working now, gauges are back in, the front brake light control isn't working, the switch is ok and it's getting 12V so I'll need to chase the wires. The fuse panel is corroded, it needs cleaning or replacing with blade type fuses.

Summit Racing sells several different count fuse blocks. I just bought 6 &10 position blocks with covers and indicators for my mono shock project bike.

I'll check it out. Do you use the SUMMIT pro shop? Once you get a customer number you can order online and enter your number for the 10% discount. Or call and talk to someone that knows what's up. It just takes an nhra competition number to get set up.

The way I understand the tail light and headlight indicator lights is, the indicator comes on with the light, the indicator blinks with a problem. (RLU) The tail light indicator comes on with the rear brake's light but the front brake doesn't activate the brake light or indicator in spite of the switch working. I need to read the wiring diagram more to follow the headlight indicator wiring, I'm thinking I can make all of this work like new.

I finally got the ground issues repaired and everything is working. I had to clean and polish the fuse holders. I might still replace them with blade fuses. This beast is ready for a test ride except it's near zero and the city did a two pass with the salt truck when we had freezing rain last week.
Oh well, the gl1000 goes on the lift today and after the timing belt idlers are done I can trim out my original K0 bike. (new paint job) When I bought it, I had no idea it was a low serial number 70, I just wanted the lesters on it.

I did see that. W0W!.  I've considered selling mine from time to time. It's certainly not a two digit bike but really original.

Sooo, the old kaw pie I thought was set, threw me a curve. I remembered the front brake doesn't light the brake light but the rear does. If I run a jumper from the front switch to the rear brake light switch connection the light works. That tells me there is an open in the blue wire somewhere in the harness between the switch and the tie in to the rear brake light wire.
Now the choice is, open the harness and follow the blue or just run a new blue wire and connect it near the rear brake switch.
I'd love to finish this beast and get my wing on the lift. Especially if it warms up a little.

Think I would cut the existing blue wire and run a new one. Provided it is not serving as a short for another wire...does not sound like it should...
