1975 CB550F0 Front Tire Good or Bad
« on: October 28, 2017, 09:43:27 AM »
I have a 1975 CB550F with 21K mi that I just got and am trying to go through all the maintenance on it.  This post is about the front tires and more specifically the front tire since the rear tire in new.  My question is about the cracks in the tire? are they a concern and should I replace immediately or replace in the near term or don't worry about it.  The tire does have a tube.

In my opinion, they are not likely to blow out, but that rubber is going to be hard and not grip well, so you should replace them before you put too many miles on them.

Dry Rubber is Dying Rubber.

If you want to go fast and turn hard, get a new tire.
Best $130 you can spend on these bikes.

these go as fast or faster than your car, but you only get two tires...get a sudden flat on the front at faster than, say 40mph?...you are probably going down
If it works good, it looks good...

yes this tire is hard, and have no grib(or you have to run them hot.to get a minium grib and comford..so the first 10 minuts drive is carefull riding..better to thange to new rubber..vho perform perfekt from start..better soft tires then longlived tires,,,specily if you only rides fev miles a year..
i kan not speak english/but trying!!

What is the date on the tire?

Good advice to check the date code. You will get differing opinions about safe tire age but a tire going flat at speed is not something you want to deal with. I have been told I'm over cautious but I don't run on tires more than 5 years old.

From just those photos, imho, that tire is toast regardless of the age.
I wouldn't ride on that tire farther than around the block.

Get rid of it after you cautiously ride it non-aggressively around your neighborhood to check out the rest of your new purchase.
