Mirror question - 75 CB400F
« on: October 16, 2017, 01:34:45 PM »
I find it difficult to see what is behind me with my mirrors. They are a bit too much inboard. I have to lean to unblock the view. Is this common? I think my mirrors are original as is my handlebar. They don't extend past the grips. My SL350 works great in this area but it has a higher and wider handlebar.

I had the same problem on my 750 after I switched to Daytona bars. Mirrors mostly got shoulder. My solution was to replace the two stalk mirrors with 1 bar end mirror on the left.

Sounds like we have/had the same problem. What is a bar end mirror?

I had the same problem on my CB400F. I ordered a pair of these extenders and placed one on the left mirror. Problem solved and I kept my bike's "factory" look. Works well.

Similar issue on my CB550, until i moved the handle bars slightly up (or down?) on accident while doing other stuff. Now it's perfect (luckily). The right mirror is a convex reflector, which is always in the right spot, no matter what. Even if I scoot up on the seat for a pillion rider, it's perfect always. There is a catch though: OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE MUCH MUCH MUCH CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR!!!!!!! If you're not already used to looking over your shoulder when you turn or change lanes, or just during normal straight line driving, you'd best get used to it with convex mirrors because it really distorts things a lot.

Thanks guys for the tips. Gnik, I like your idea of keeping the bikes factory look. Now just wondering if this was an issue with the original bike or if I don't have something original?

Make sure the stalks are all the way to the outside.  They're adjustable.

I got a pair of mirror extenders on eBay and they work fine. Simple to install. Here is a pic for anyone in a similar situation:
