Have some fun...what’s wrong with a picture here
« on: November 02, 2017, 03:48:18 PM »
This is an official original Honda brochure on the brand new 1975 Honda 550F.
But , one picture is wrong.
This illustrates that even official Honda documents may be deceiving.
So...how good are you experts on here....

Not the seat.  Have a dark brown trimmed and strapped one on bloo.  (Duct tape notwithstanding)

I’ve actually discussed the seat on here before and have other documented evidence for that...aside from having an original unrestored 75 myself...brown is the correct color

No...although that’s from the Honda model book, the 75 description gives no color.
The part number in an official 1975 parts book and a 1976 parts book are the same part number.
CMS  parts fiche also gives the same parts number for a “ seat coat”  for 75 and 76..only
I have period magazines that also document this. Plus I have an original ,unrestored 75
...but I just put this for fun ,not to get into this particular discussion now....later, ok..
In the meantime....there is something wrong with one of the pictures, I thought y’all might have some fun with it.....it took me awhile and then it jumped out at me....

Both gauges are for a 750.

I’m not a 750 expert, but yeah the gauges..
I was getting at the fact that the  550 f speedo used the trip set knob that extended from the back, not the side....
Was that a 750 only fact?...

No, the trip knob moved from bottom to side on the 550, too. The 550 Speedos only have 120 mph markings.  The 750's had 140MPH markings (This was important on those long downhill rides with gale winds at your back.  ;) )

Also as noted, all the 550s had 9200 red line.

As an engineer, we always had to make a "sample" available for marketing pictures well ahead of production delivery.  I made several "special products" where only the leds were powered.  We made jokes they were appropriate for marketing, as they were filled with slightly cooler air than what they normally carried about their shoulders.  ;D

Cheers,

Yep, and the 75 and 76 550 f’s had the back trip knob...
And now for the seat.
It is brown for 1975 F’s, and brown only....it was never black for 75 and 76....

That buzzer was sofa king obnoxious. Somehow mine survived 15 years before I got the bike. It made me not want to use the turn signals. I practically ripped it off at a stop light. I can't remember how long I let it live. Less than a week maybe? I may sometimes forget to cancel the signal, but I would rather signal a left for 20 miles than listen to that fire 20 seconds.

I guess what I'm saying is that buzzer was not something to be proud of. I'm guessing whoever came up with it would not admit it.

If the turn signal switch is like earlier 750's  all the way left signal on and buzzer on,1/2 way over left signal on no buzzer, middle is off and same two positions going to the right = 5 positions.

I know. I was making fun of the marketing touting this simple feature like it's even worth mentioning.
When I got my K5 the buzzer was missing. I replaced it.
It lasted exactly as long as the first ride and I disconnected it.  ::)
Even more useless than the brake light monitor on my XS650.

A lot of people though, especially newer owners do not even know that there is a buzzer defeat built into their turn switch so just getting out the word a bit for the folks who do not know.  I use it all the time but still have the buzzer when I want to sound like a semi truck backing up  :D
Five position switch does sound pretty importand and high tech !   ;)

Many of the Japanese bike brochures were made well ahead of actual bike production and showed early prototype features. Also, in a lot of cases, market specific models were shown and used around the world although they were only offered in a certain market, thus they showed the wrong specs for those who looked at it.
