Alright, the race day started off on a bad note. It was cool, foggy and a heavy mist when we arrived at the track this morning. It took almost until noon before it cleared up enough for the first bike to make a pass down the dragstrip. There were no time runs allowed for the day so we had to dial and go. First class up was street ET so I fired up the Honda and went to staging just to find a large turnout of bikes already lined up. I finally made it to the front of staging, was Paired with a Busa and rolled into the water box. I dialed a 10.53 to his 9.39. I left first and when I got about 3/4 track I looked back and he was closing the gap so I stayed in the throttle until we crossed the trap. I glanced at the win light on my side and it wasn't on. Dang. I knew we went through very close to one another but I felt I had crossed first. After picking my time slip up from the booth, I realized just how close the race was. I had a very slight advantage on the tree and we both ran dead on our dial ins. His margin of victory was .003. 😞. Oh well. I went back to the pit area to prep the bike for the $10k bracket class. I towed the wife up on her dragbike to the lanes with the scooter and then went back for the 750. She was well ahead of me so I was able to help her at the starting line with some assistance from our racing team. She dialed a 9.23 to her opponents 8.21. She left first on a clean pass but seemed a tad late off the line. Her opponent gave chase but unfortunately she broke out with a 9.21 pass on her 9.23 dial in. I then came up to the head of staging and ended up paired with a bike dialing in at a 8.12 to my 10.53. As soon as I let the clutch go, I saw the dreaded red light but made the full pass anyway. Funny thing is I never saw my opponent near me. He finally rolled down the track and off onto the return road where I was parked, talking to the wife. He explained that had I not red lighted, it would have been an easy win because his bike crossed up off the line and he had to roll out of the throttle. Oh well. I decided not to buy back in so that ended my weekend of racing. I had been experiencing some severe back pain since Saturday morning and it had started to run down my right leg. I felt it best to quit and not aggravate my back any further until I can see a doctor. Hopefully I will be okay to race in Valdosta in a few weeks 😠
