Here in NY they of course broke the story in real time. It is hard to stop when you have no idea who will do this next. I will be down in Manhattan tomorrow and I am sure it will be like it never happened. That is how ot should be, they change our daily lives - they won.

Just awful.  Seriously.  The things mankind can do to each other is appalling.

But, it got me thinking, given past event reactions...
How soon will we see indignant action groups use this outrageous event for their own agenda?

I suppose we'll now have to ban rental trucks.  Or, at least SOME rental trucks as a preventive measure to reduce the widespread availability.
We'll need to institute background checks and waiting periods for all truck renters.

Some trucks will now be re-classified as "assault trucks", that the general populace won't be allowed to possess or transfer.
If it has large bumpers, large run-flat tires (images of flattened people), a large capacity cargo area, a full auto transmission, with a pistol grip shifter.
Only police and military should be allowed...  It's just common sense...

Also need legislation establishing a "truck free zone" buffer area in and around every park setting in America so this can never happen again.

So sad...

I think tt just said what many were thinking.

May we have the wisdom to oppose those fools when they roll the bandwagon into town.

But for the 20-30-50-or 60 living people effected by the mans action.  May they find justice in their grief knowing that muthafcker is goin to guitmo.

Happy Halloween everyone, honor thy dead.

I heard today that people think Trump is being to hard on him? Listen, politics aside, how can anyone really think that? This guy murdered Americans with a #$%*ing rental truck. He deserves my infamous cheese grater to the shins while someone else sprays brake cleaner on the wounds.

They’re not entirely wrong lostboy.  The guy would only be on the hook for 8 counts of vehicular homicide if he hadn’t upped the anté by shouting “ALLAHU AKBHAR!” at the cops.

Funny though, how well nypd handled this fool compared to other classes of criminal.
Coulda pumped him full of lead right then and there for what he done.

Lloyd has a point but slightly hard to implement. There is a move right now to install tougher barriers to bike and walking paths at each intersection. I was down there yesterday and as I predicted it was business as usual. The Halloween parade went on as usual in the Village. This weekend will be the NYC marathon and will be very crowded. There are 35,000 NYPD cops which is a decent sized Army in some places in the World, so it should be secure.

This animal will not get off easy as this is the home of 9/11. We have a death penalty in NY which is never used. We also have some really old and dangerous prisons in upstate NY. He will not be happy up there for the rest of his life.

I'm sorry for your attacks guys I don't know how you can stop them but can Trump shoot his mouth off like that and your legal system provide a fair trial or at least pay lip service to fair and remember you could be up in front of the system too, however unlikely that maybe.

I’m pretty sure Lloyd was being facetious... Oddly, many took the bait  ::)

His point (if I am interpreting him correctly) is the lack of a rally cry to demonize and outlaw Rental trucks as they are a weapon of choice for mass murder. It’s the stark contrast between these types of events and a firearm-based event that is rather hypocritical in the public/political reaction.

As for this suspect receiving a fair trial, there’s little to the premise that a President will persuade a jury in their decision. Especially given the unpopularity of this sitting President with many. But I agreee, he should refrain from these judgemental outbursts and allow the legal system to do its thing.

I think we got his point we just leaned into it for fun.  BTW the temporary cement barriers are up on the bike paths, now you know why they call it a NY minute.   ;D

Really?  Are these likely to become permanent?  Can one drive around them?

Personally, I really don't like being punished for the misadventures of others.

The bike lanes in question are a full lane wide which is why this scumbag could drive that truck down it. The traffic side of the bike lanes have barriers already to prevent cars from drifting into them. The ends of the lanes at intersections were wide open. Now some Jersey barriers or large  cement cubes have been placed at these openings. The bicyclist will have to maneuver around them not the drivers.  Ultimately some decorative posts will be installed.
