Why would you put a 750 exhaust on a 550??   ???

Nearest to that would be 77/78 550 BUT at least one pipe is unobtaiium AND if it aint a 77/78 you would have to butcher the rear brake pedal to make it fit.
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Also, DME modified those exhausts.  Those are/were stock CB750 exhuast, now they're DME specials.

Hi puppytrax.  I was hoping to find something similar for a 550.  Not really inquiring about how to adapt a 750 exhaust system to a 550.  Is this a 4 into 4 or a 4 into 2?  I don't know enough about these to tell if the mufflers are one piece to two.

      Hey memphis,

It's definitely a 4 into 4 system and like Mike said, Daniel (DME) took a stock 750
exhaust system and modified it to his liking. Hope that helps.

Thanks guys.  When shopping for an exhaust for my bike do I look for a CB550 exhaust or do I go by measurements, diameters, etc...?

I was lucky enough to score a set of NOS Hooker 4-into-4 slip-ons a few years back for my '76 CB550K.  I'm sure these are unobtanium at this point, but I think similar set could be conjured up using four "generic" reverse cone megaphone mufflers such as offered by JCWhitney and the like.  You would have to fab some custom angled adapter tubes to mate with the headpipes, and some custom hanger brackets for the megaphones themselves.

I've been looking for an Action Four exhaust like I had 30 years ago; anybody see a set lately? Want to build a bike around it. Made for CB500/550, CB750 and Kaw Z1.

As usual after looking at Jewel's clothes (and hair) I'm once again reminded how terrible the 70's were in regard to fashion. ;) :D

More info on the modified stock exhaust can be found here:

http://www.sohc4.us/forums/index.php?topic=12480.0

Cant see any reason why it couldnĀ“t be done to a stock 4-4 CB500 exhaust in a similar fashion.

Cheers

         Hey Kevin,
Nice 550 and I sure like those pipes. Only Hookers (for motorcycles) that I'd seen was a 2 into 1 on my brother-in-law's new (at the time) CB350G and it not only looked good, it sounded good too. Thanks for posting that.
