Two Shifters?
« on: November 03, 2017, 01:14:34 PM »
OK, I feel like a complete tool asking this, but here it goes. I spent some time looking online with no luck. I have a 750a I am just getting back on the road. Its a chopper, so the engine is in a custom frame. Actually, a couple of questions...

What are both the shifters for? I know one is high/low, how about the other?

Does anyone have a close-up pic of the configuration of the shifters and how each is installed? I have two shifters; one like just like on a regular 5 speed 750, and the other is a bit shorter and stubby. I see the two shafts coming from the left side. Which goes front, and which back? I'd like to see a pic of them both installed because I can't see how you get the set screw in the shorter one and still clear the engine cover.

Finally, I'd like to get the one or more the indicator lights working, specifically the neutral and oil light. I suspect these are the Red wire and the other is Blue w/Yellow Stripe coming from the engine (these two are separate from the main bundle). Is this right?

Thanks in advance.

To easy! All else fails, read the manual right?  ::)

I see that the other shaft next to the shifter is the neutral thing-a-ma-bob that connects to the center stand. So if nothings connected to it does that mean its in drive, or I it the other way around (nothing connected it stays in neutral?

The wiring doesn’t quite line up with what I am seeing come out of the motor, but I will do some probing with tester and see what I can decipher.

I've kinda got the same problem. What do we actually do with the neutral lever? Make a small hand lever or a foot lever or? I need to keep the neutral safety switch, but I can't have it getting bumped or vibrated into neutral. I'm open to any good ideas too.

I am treating it just like a gear shift on any other bike. It's not so sensitive that it needs to be treated any differently.

I used an early and a late model shifter so they clear each other..

Here is a pic of mine. Runs and stops. Still need to wire up the charging, and would also like to have indicator lights for neutral/hi/low.

Thanks for the pic Jonnycakes. The auto's seem to get photographed most from the right side. Yours turned out pretty nice!  :)
