Cb750,frame ,under tank, diy kit,for head and cylinder removal!
« on: November 07, 2017, 06:50:44 AM »
20 years ago when I first bought my bike,it needed rings and a valve job.
I talked to an experienced bike mechanic who told me to cut the frame out under tank,do the repair, and just leave it out? Well I followed his advice, kinda,I did the repaie, but just couldn't leave that frame section out.
I cut the tubes ,but left them attached to each other!
I found a tube that just fit over the stock tube, drilled and tapped for Allen set screws?
No vibration, no ratles, the set screws haven't came loose once in 20 Years!
And about 10 years ago when I did the 836, it made things so much easier to do than pulling the engine!

Really not the best way to do a frame kit, and should probably be redone. Relying on a small set screw to keep everything from moving around is not very wise. Get a proper frame kit, and enjoy the convenience as well as restored rigidity of the frame.
All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.

Completely agree.

I can imagine that bike is quite a handful in bumpy high speed turns, what with all the frame twisting.

A few options actually. Frank (754 on here) makes a nice aluminum one. There is also a weld in steel version, or you can make your own with some tube clamps like I did, seen here:

All you gotta do is do what you gotta do.
