Maybe I'm foolish but I'm with Jag. You guys are talking about 100mph like you're free diving under ice without a safety line.

100mph is pretty much just 90 but a bit faster. 90 is essentially a hair over 75 and 75 is practically the speed of most traffic on highways in the fast lane.

 I don't advocate it but Ive done 100 on mine. Bike runs like the wind for what it is. I actually don't know exactly what it is but Ive assumed its a stock 750 since I got it 20 years ago- abandoned in a garage with no tank,exhaust, fenders, seat or side covers with a black and chromed engine... bob

have done somthing simular..a garelli katia vith a 125/ 150 MZ engine..it vas scary ..the brake drums vas gloving at night riding.(.probly also at day riding)

but it have no chance to do the ton..it only run 120 kmt
I used to have a Puch moped that I got a lot of parts from the Netherlands. That bad boy went way faster than it should have as well.

 Last year I did 95 on a sandcast 750. Could have gone faster, thought about the bike. Then rode my gl1000 all day at 85 up on I90 going to Sturgis.

my 550 easily reaches the ton and more. i often commute to an office of my company where i ride on the highway with stretches that have a speed limit of 130kph. to get away from cars i regularly hit 160kph/100mph. it's fine for short quick stints but as a sustained speed with an unfaired bike it's uncomfortable and tiring. i'm talking real speed measured by GPS, not what the honda speedo wants you to believe.
my chassis, suspension, brakes etc are in good shape and have improvements to make the ride more stable and secure.

would i recommend it to an inexperienced rider on a 40 year old bike in dubious condition? sure not.
will a rider try to push his bike to the limit? most probably yes, at some point. it's part of the attraction for many. but do so in a safe place and only when you can rationally say you're confident about it.

i have a moped that does 80 or 90kph, sometimes 100 if the wind blows from behind... that feels more scary than 160kph on the CB! and if you crash at that speed (or lower) you're mush as well.

all this bragging about speed is fine but keep in mind the OP is a relatively new rider with a bike in unknown condition and wants to make hitting a certain speed his goal. that in itself does not sound sensible to me. the earlier made advice about taking a course and doing track days and build up skill and experience, is probably the best one.

Yes. Probably best not to document yourself breaking the law. I'm not a lawyer, but I'm pretty confidant that if you shared it on Youtube it's admissible in court.

On proper roads, you’re right. On public roads, it’s often 170% of the speed limit and a danger to everyone else around you. Who among us deserves the right to endanger others so wantonly? Want to risk your life, fine by me. Risk mine, and I’ll put you in the ditch personally as a Public Service.
In Utah 125 percent of speed limit us 100 mph.

What i am going to say might sound stupid, but before reaching high speeds we also need to think on how we would stop. I have 2 disc brakes in my CB 750, R1 master cylinder and braided brake lines and i still have 0 confidence in my braking. For that reason i never go that fast. When i read all these stories on how you reached 80 mph i m scared !!!

Bike magazines of the 80's had pages with warning to all bikers, most bikers that dies did not twist the throttle to death, they brake to death. Or died on another persons bike.
I fully agree with that since braking very hard for an obstacle is car driving style. The bike however is slimmer and can find a working way passing the obstacle.

This is terrifying on so many levels. Not having any confidence in a major system on your bike means you probably shouldnt ride, at least not any faster than you can walk.

Damn amine man.  Willi is right.  A little harsh, but right.

Find yourself a parking lot and practice some heavy braking.  These machines can’t really brake mid turn.  But knowing how it feels in the levers at the edge of lockup is important.

I like practicing front wheel skids on the farmland gravel roads.  That’s a good spook.

I'm wrapping up my second season, this was my first full one. I was doing 100 before the end of last and truthfully its because I never realized I was even doing 90 once I hopped onto the freeway. Just be responsible, do it on open long roads with fantastic visibility, ride the roads you know well, don't do it around traffic man, you won't look cool smashing a car through the intersection, if you wanna ride reckless you better take the time and once over your entire bike. Don't be lazy, you can take high risk if you put in the work. Stay low, pay attention to wind patterns, There is a stretch of highway about two miles long coming downhill everyday after work, Im never not going near top speed because is just too damn wonderful. When I'm driving a car I noticed a lot of people on bikes checking out other drivers, aka, not watching the road. Don't be that guy either...don't wonder who is watching you, just focus and have fun.
