A couple of 2strokes...
« on: November 04, 2017, 07:41:31 AM »
Im a bit of a 2stroke fan, here are my two babies, both regular riders and ocasional trackdays, mainly road riding though. We have a fantastic classic bike and classic 2stroke scene here in the north of england, we often gather at the famous Squires cafe. A great base for rides into the dales and north yorkshire moors or over to the east coast and Scarborough or Whitby...

NSR250MC21 1992 Japanese market only model

Yamaha RD250F 1980, this was the last of the air cooled models, a learner-legal bike back in the day. This one was restored by me 10 years ago and is a regular reliable rider.

I heart smokers too 😄 You should get an NSR, they are awesome little bikes, like a mini GP bike for the road...

Thanks for the comments

This is the NSR motor, i had to rebuild it a few years ago as it siezed the centre bearing shortly after arrival fron Japan. They often sit about unused and the roller bearings can become dry and corroded. Once that happens a failure is inevitable. Honda never made the bearings available as spares, only the full crank assembly. Fortunately you can get hold of them straight from the original supplier Koyo but they are in short supply. I bought two sets, one for the rebuild and another spare set for the future.... it cost me about £1000 to rebuild including a new oil pump from Honda at £320!... its been very reliable since however, so worth the expense.

Honda never made many 2strokes compared to say Yamaha or Suzuki, but the motor is a superb neat design, the way the carbs are banked together and the single centre bearing with in-built crank seal makes for a real compact assembly....compare this to an RGV or TZR with bits sticking out all over...

Love ya bikes. A friend down the road has an NSR250 he's selling in the same colours. I wish I had the money.
Tomorrow after years of restoring my 350LC ,I'm finally getting it registered and on the road. The anticipation in killing me.

Hey stev-o, those are great looking strokers! The KH is worth big money over here in the uk.... they go for crazy prices, even basket-cases.... yours looks to be in great shape! I love the rd’s although i do prefer the later coffin tank models.... the 350 is a very desirable machine especially in std condition as yours.

I thought about putting 350 top end onto my rd but the barrels and heads are quite rare over here and thus expensive and difficult to get hold of.  You can get new ones from india but I’ve heard mixed reviews... they need a bit of porting to make them right and the liners can move  :o .... maybe one day  ::)

Thanks Rob.  They are going for crazy prices here too.  I bought it as a basket case 2.5 years ago, have been collecting parts and had a goal of getting it on the road last month.  Fun to ride!

I picked this one up a few years ago, a guy bought it for his stepson but the kid didnt want it!  [prolly wanted a crotch rocket]
Motor runs great but needs a clutch, it's on the list...

Tidy looking 550 1976cb....! The 380 version is a pretty common classic in the uk but the 550 is quite a bit rarer.... i always preferred them to the gt750 “kettle”
