Would have liked the crate to be "hard sided" but ran out of time.  I understand most of the competitors wrap the crate in shrink wrap or plastic.  Trusting the shippers to take good care of my toy.  Hoping they don't let me down!  Dave Crussell supervises the loading of the shipping container before it goes on the boat.

T.G., did not respond to your question about classes.  Yes, there is a class for my CB550.  It just would not be competitive in the International Challenge race (1200cc 4 strokes and TZ750s).

Just learned that Jake Zemke and Jason Pridmore are also competing for Team USA.  Going to be the strongest team from the USA to date.

nice to see that "Mad" Ed Haazer is still at it. The guy has been racing for decades his kitchen built z1000. Maybe not a front runner but his legacy to the same bike over so many years is a bit of a legend in NoCal area.

What pisses me off Simon is that once again I'm going to miss out. >:(

We have had a week of 40degC + temps here and I've ended up in bloody hospital thanks to an autonomic dysreflexia episode.  Yer yer I know, that's easy for me to say. ;D

Like many other parra's I have a condition called Poikilothermia.

Basically I don't sweat so my old carcass can't regulate it's temperature.
And me having a tendency to be a bit "gung ho" occasionally, I've managed to go ass over tit. ::)

Cheers,
Brian

Day one is in the books. Sunny and warm temperatures all day. Uncrated the Motorcycles yesterday and was pleased to find my Suzuki had traveled well. The International Challenge riders were first up. My first practice session went well. Even though I had a general idea of the layout, there are decreasing/increasing corners and elevation changes to learn. Must have looked like I as lost as I was shown the blue flag several times. My lap times gradually dropped as the day went on. The fastest ten riders on each team qualify for the Challenge races. Will find out tomorrow where I stand. First up is qualifying for the Forgotten 500 class. Followed by two qualifying rounds for the Challenge races and the first Forgotten 500 race.

Still pinching my self so I know this is real. Saw Troy Corser, Jeremy McWilliams, and a lot of other fast guys on the track today. You need to bring your “A” game as these guys are serious. Good news is I'll still have my class to race in regardless of how qualifying for the International Challenge goes. Can't post pictures from my phone, but will do so when I'm back in the USA.

Finished qualifying and my first race today. My Q time put me on row 6 of the combined Forgotten 500 and Unlimited Post Classic. Had not watched the starting lights I waited for every one else to go. Still got off OK and held my place into turn one. This was a 4 lap race and it went by quickly. Think I finished tenth in the 500 class. Was good to have someone to race with and found another second off my lap time. Unfortunately my times are not quick enough for the International Challenge Race. So, two races in class on Saturday and one on Sunday. Maybe next year.

Giacomo Agostini is the guest of honor and there are a brace of his MVs here. Alan Cathcart was the master of ceremony at the gala dinner. In addition to Ago he interviewed Edwards, Corser, McWilliams and a Kiwi who’s name escapes me. The event reminds me of the Daytona 200 back in the day. Quality bikes and an enthusiastic crowd.

What a second day! Had a decent start in race 2 and was getting into a rhythm. Finally cracked the two minute barrier and was feeling good. Then on lap four The bike went off song. Not pulling and back firing. It wasn't getting any worse, so decided to carry on at a reduced pace. Post race inspection revealed the problem. The number three carburetor had come loose, fallen out of the manifold, and the piston had siezed!  I had changed the main jets yesterday and must have jarred the carb loose. Fortunately each cylinder is separate and I had brought one spare. Craig, a friend who used to race and maintain his own bikes has joined me on the trip. We swapped out the cylinder and put a used piston and new ring on. Could not have done it in time for race three with out him. Heat cycled the motor three times and it was time to race.

Got careless and moved before the lights went out. Since I had stopped I thought no harm no foul. Was with a pack of a half dozen racers for the first three laps and got around a couple. Then on the last lap the motor gave several loud pops. I coasted on to the front straight and took the checkered flag sure I had siezed again. The crash truck picked me up in turn one and brought me back to our pit. Craig started removing the gas tank to check the sparkplugs when he told me it was my lucky day. Not a drop of gas in the tank!  Even Finding out I was accessed a ten second penalty for jumping the start did not dampen my joy that I had not seized again.

Tomorrow is a light day with just one race. Plan to get out and watch the International Challenge races and Ago MV demonstration laps. Jeremy McWilliams won race one of the IC with David Johnson taking race two. Jason Pridmore has two fourth places, Jake Zemke two top tens, and Colin Edwards a fifth and thirteenth. Team score after two races is AUS 341, UK 335, US 288, NZ 184.
