There were a lot of old 350 and 450 'choppers' around back in the 70's-80's running the streets and those things could be LOUD
Yeah, I always knew when he was coming to visit - from 2 blocks away, at least.
Later, after these pix, I made a cross-bracket at the point where the pipes come close to one another, and made a tee from that to the frame to hold them still. They tended to work at the exhaust gaskets, making them come loose from time-to-time (chopper stuff...). The header pipes were from Triple A accessories and the downturn pipes were from Rocky Cycle. The squared-looking pipes were a popular thing from every vendor, back in the 1970s! Somehow the chopper crowd thought the graceful, curved look of the Hondas was just not their idea of a sweet ride?
One thing that MUST be done with the 350 and 450 twins when installing long forks is: either lose some power and suffer some oil leaks out the rear breather, and fight with carb tuning, all for the tilt of the engine, or else...make new engine mounts that re-level the engine and carbs like they were in the original frame. I did the latter with this one so the oil pump could stay wetted with the normal amount of oil: you can sort of see the level engine in the Echo Lake picture with him sitting on it. This made it into a superior touring bike, compared to others like it that were just jacked up in front. He wore out the 5.00 x 16 rear tire before it got stolen, though!
