550 with a stepped seat?
« on: November 22, 2017, 05:16:34 PM »
Was there a 550 that came with a stepped seat? I got a Travelcade new repro. seat cover with the foam on it in a box of parts. It looks like a kz1000 ltd seat but the code on the bottom of the foam says H404 which I assume is a Honda 550.
The foam was obviously poured on a seat pan and the marks left in the foam look like a Honda pan too. Maybe it's a custom deal.

I came up empty googling Travelcade H404 but did see some 78 550 seats.  I may try this puppy on an LTD seat pan anyway.

Here is my 550 with the seat it came with. 1978 550K.

I didn't keep the seat and I don't really know the history of the bike. Hope this helps, dj

P.67 of the appropiate parts list is clear on this: only the CB550K4 had a different (stepped) seat. http://www.honda4fun.com/pdf_parts_list/pdf_spac500-550/CB500-550_K3-K4.pdf

I prefer the old one too. Honda wanted to draw more people to their bikes, like shorter men and women.

I wouldn't call the slight rise in the '78 K seat a step.

My 550F had an aftermarket seat on it, this is what a step looks like.

Ok then, it is a seat cover for a 550. I didn't know why we had one when we only bought 750's, Thank guys. My brother was a Kawasaki mechanic, I thought maybe he drug it home from work years ago.

Anyway this is what happened today. I believe the travelcade seat kit is a Kawasaki LTD seat with foam poured on a 550 Honda pan. I peeled the cover off the Honda foam and stretched it over a kawi pan and foam. Thanks for the help.
