Topic: 1974 cb750 in a shed

I found out from a fellow soccer referee that he had a 1974 CB750 in his wood working shop.
He rode it through his university days and parked it in 1984.
As you can see he did customize it
Long story short he had always intended to get back to it but 35 years later there it still sat.

I bugged him for about a year or so every time we would ref a game together and eventually he was convinced that he would probably never get back to it.
I went and had look and a deal was made.
This was last winter and I have been busy with the project on and off till now.
I thought I had better get a build thread going and will catch up to where the project stands now.
The motor of course would not turn over.
He had the original pipes which I took along but pretty rusted.
All the hardware was still with the pipes so I may be able to slvage that for a future project but I kind of like the pipe that is on it.

Steel wool 0000 is your friend when cleaning up the chrome. Also Turtle Wax rust remover is great.

I am sticking with the look that it has
I am playing catch up with this story
Washed it down
There was an inch of sawdust on every thing which kept the frame and chrome in pretty good shape

To make a long story a little shorter
I soaked the cylinders with ATF and after a week it broke loose.
The tank was a mess but i got it clean.
Rinsed the engine with diesel and put fresh oil and filter.
Put a fresh battery in it and the neglected electrical system came to life.
Spun it over without the plugs until the oil pressure light went out.
New spark plugs and low and behold it had good spark.
Put some gas in it
It cranked over for a while and ran. Not well but on all 4 cylinders.
The neighbors almost called the fire department as the smoke show was impressive.
It would not idle and it certainly needed some attention but it was a runner and I now new that I could keep going with the project
That was last spring
This was how it looked at this point. The previous owner stripped the paint off the tank with a grinder 
I will continue with this story...

I like the look of the seat, but I would add a properly fitted strap.
I too have a 74 I ride all the time, and it had sat since early 80,s..but had reggie.. first or end owner.
 Can you see original color underneath the tank ?

Nice shed find!
Looks like it cleaned up pretty good.
CLR Remover is great stuff, it does well on rust and corrosion on aluminium cases. Walmart $5

I pulled the carbs and replaced the boots
There were pods on it which I ditched because the PO had actually saved the stock air box
New air box boots also after spending a week one day trying to mount it with the old rock hard ones.
Cleaned the carbs and replaced the low speed jets
It runs decent and the final tuning can wait
I am amazed at how well these bikes are built
Scored a EBAY bargain

This made up my mind what colour I was going with on this build.
The tank has a small dent but the inside was spotless
It had never had gas in it until I put some in.
I was interupted and got side tracked by another project.
My grandson thinks I am cool but my wife not so much

One other distraction
I found a 2001 ZX12 Ninja in a barn where some one had left it after he slid it down the road on its right side
The bike had 10000  km on it
Fixed and sold it quick. It was faster than what my brain could handle
The hardest part was matching the decals
It helps that my brother has a body shop

I am working on both bikes through the winter
I am busy playing with candy paint and metal flake
What a pain in the #$%
At my brothers shop
I am waiting for more candy orange to finish

The seat on the GL was just laying on the bike
It is the stock seat

Great with our without the fairing. It's period correct and adds some uniqueness.
