Topic: CB550 gearshift spindle play

Hi.... traced an oil leak to the seal on the gearshift spindle on my CB550.. Before I replace the seal, I’m wondering if the play on the spindle shown on the attached video is the norm?.....
I would say that there’s about 1.5mm of play, in and out...

I can't see the video for some reason, but in and out play is normal for the shift shaft.

Works fine for me, looks normal bit of play, I'd do the seal.
But I get a second opinion before you start

Cheers guys... The only way I found to watch it was to click on the Mov file (with my phone),save the video and watch it from ‘my videos’ ... One other thing.. new to all this,so forgive me but do I need to drain the oil first? (just thinking if I pull the seal, will all the oil just fall out!!)

you will be fine with the oil level if on the main stand, you can always lean it over to the right against a wall.
Use a couple of wood screws to pull it out. put some tape over the gearshaft splines, and put your new seal in. tap it in squarely with a socket or pipe and your good to go.
