Anyone here into ducati singles?
« on: November 26, 2017, 09:55:34 AM »
I pick up a 1966 350 sebring from a buddy of mine a while back. He rebuilt the engine but never put the bike back together. It sat for maybe 6 months in his garage and has been sitting in my basement since. I'd like to built something cool out of it, but I want to learn more about them before I start into it. I found 1 ducati singles forum but it doesn't seem to be heavily trafficked.  Does anyone know of a good forum or place to go for info? This will be my 3rd ducati single, but I never did anything with the others so they're very new to me.
Thanks,
Dave

I remember seeing that one before. It's an awesome bike, you did a great job on it

I would like to build something that resembles the race bikes. My buddy suggested putting the engine in a cb350 frame, which is also a consideration. I'm just not sure if that would be an upgrade over the ducati frame.

Thanks guys. Yea it's funny you just put this up, I literally pulled the 160 motor yesterday to go all mad scientist inside it (major port job, 11:1 compression by milling the barrel, cutting the piston, etc).  I can help you out on all the go fast stuff in the motor, and as well as where to get the right parts. Lacey Ducati and classic ducati in Britain have everything from making a little more power, to almost doubling what it had from the factory. Obviously budget comes into play. If you want an awesome frame check out malarkey engineering. They have a killer ducati single frame. The 350 nc is something I've been wanting for a while, very jealous!

Also there's a couple of good books out there, I'll dig mine out so I can give u the names. All the singles other than desmo heads are pretty much the same, you do one you're good to go on all of them.

I woud appreciate that very much. I'm probably at least a year away from getting started on this project, but I really want to learn more about them before I start.

Since the engine was already rebuilt, I didn't plan on doing anything more with it other than upgrading the charging system to 12v. But that could always change.
Thanks,
Dave

That malarkey engineering frame looks awesome. I'm bookmarking that.

I thought i saw your honda/ducati hybrid for sale several months back? did you decide to keep it or am I mistaken?

There a whole charging system upgrade I highly highly suggest, Lacey ducati sells it, and they have a few narrowcase kits left. It's the stator, rotor, r/r and digital ignition. Boosts it to 120w 12v which is very needed.

Yes, I ended up keeping it, the bike is a lot of fun. One day when is get a 350nc I may let it go.

Also, don't shy away from some top end work, this is the easiest top end to take apart, 4 bolts!

Haha. I'll leave everything on the table. Thank you for all of the information. It's just what I needed to get the wheels turning

You got me thinking, I'm going to try making this for my 160 motor. All single 2" tube other than the swingarm. Forgive my crappy drawing ability but it'll give you the idea.

I specifically designed it to be easy to make, as i dont have a frame jig. Fingers crossed lol
