Opinions on Mikuni RS34
« on: November 29, 2017, 12:18:09 PM »
Hi,

To the ones using them: how would you review the Mikuni RS34?
Are you using it for street cruising as well? How is the bottom end?
Perhaps you have as well experience in comparison to the TMR or Keihin CR?
Would be good to state your setup with it.

Thanks!

The RS work very well on the street. I run a 1000cc engine. The correct insulators make a big difference in ease of mounting. I have TMR 32's and TMR 36's sitting on a shelf. They are better than FCR's IMO. Ask PeWe about the 32 TMR's....he has a lot of experience with them.

TMR32 work fine, really good throttle response. I have them hooked up with CB750 std throttle mechansim and cables. Full throttle in less than 1/4 twist of the handle which need to be handle with care during take off's.

I have not used RS34 so I don't know the difference.

EDIT:
TMR 32 needles easy to change without ruin the sync. Main jets easy to change too.

Different with changing pilot jets when the float bowl has to be removed. The "problem" is that all 4 bowls are connected to each other with rubber hoses for the Acc pump if I have got it right.

I have removed all 4 bowls several times with carbs mounted. Delivered with 27.5. I tested with 25 and 22.5 until I went the other way to richer 30 that work fine.

Mikuni has a "not service minded" design of the gasket which is a thin flimsy rubber gasket, like a big o-ring that wait for making problem jumping out of the groove, get pinched and cause a fuel leak. I had gaskets that became bigger by the fuel. I had to order new, they cost some.

Better to know the correct pilot jet from the beginning or change the pilot jets with carbs off.
All 4 bowls removed at the same time. Rubber straps keep them all in place while removing 4 x allen head screws. Then carefully take them all down horizontally.

Gaskets (red flimsy o-rings) can be fixed by small dollops of sticky grease here and there when mounting the bowls.

Maybe same thing with RS34?
