Hey Breeze,
My Dad started smoking when he was about 14 and one day, in Feb 67', he just laid them down (said he was tired of the coughing and such) and hasn't touched one since. That's been 39 yrs ago. Now, my Mom is a different story. She said that she would stop smoking when my Dad did and I approached her about it. Finally, about 4 1/2 years ago she had to quit, she had Lung Cancer. The operated on her to see about removing the injected area. It had spread too far for that, so they sewed her back up and then she took treatments. within about a couple of months, her health was failing and the doctor has her admitted to the hospital again and they found that she had Cancer in the lower rear portion of the brain. The surgery was successful and so, we thought she was on her way to recovery. The following Dec, she went back into hospital, went into a coma and after some time, they couldn't do anything so they were going to send her to a Rest Home in the small town by where my Dad and Mom lived. Now, I was a bit nervous about that decision because my Grandmother (My Mom's Mother) was living in that same Rest Home. As it turned out, They were getting her ready to be moved, had her in the ambulance and was making some final checks and found that only moments before, she had passed on. You might know that it would happen on one of the very few days that I wasn't down there.
Breeze, I have to apologize to you, I only intended to go into how my Dad gave up smoking after all those years without any trouble and that my Mom had trouble quiting. I didn't really intend to go into all this, it just kinda happened. Hope you understand now though why I wish everyone could and would give them up. I know first hand what kind of damage they can do. We also lost my Father-in-law to Lung Cancer about a year after that. He was a very good man too.
