Keep trying mate, your family will love you for it! ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well think of it this way mate, if you keep smoking, you won't get much older, either! ;D

Keep trying, at roughly $5 per pack on a one pack a day habit, you'll have $1800 bucks extra each year to spend on bikes. A much more socially acceptable way to kill yerself!!

Seriously, after smoking hard for 12 years, I quit and never looked back. The craving gets less intense and less prolonged as you go along. Try and pat yourself on the back after each hour then each day, and eventually the days get to be an impressive enough number that would be stupid to jeapordize. I just know that  if I took a drag I probably would start up again, so I don't go there.
The good thing is after a bit the smell became objectionable to me, so I don't hang around smokers too much. Hang in there and pat yourself on the back, brother!

Best for the New Year,
Ben

I too, want to congratulate those who have quit smoking! 8) And I want to encourage those who are trying to quit and simply say, "You Can Do It!" ;) Like I said previously in this thread (last year), my Dad just laid them down in Feb. 67' and hasn't touched one since (he'll be 82 this July! My Mom, on the other had, died 6 years ago this coming Feb. :'( (She quit about 6 months before she died) I constantly worry about my Dad because he was not only a smoker for lots of years, he was subjected to "Second Hand Smoke" for many years (and they say that that is more hazardous) I'm proud of those who've quit and those making the effort! ;)

May We ALL Have A Happy New Year! ;)

                                   Later on, Bill :) ;)

I just hope that when smoking is prohibited(never happen) then medical costs will drop and half the doctors and medical people will be unemployed. Insurance rates will be cut by 75% and we will all live another 20 years at least. I just wonder what people will have to #$%* about then, life will be great.

You will still have to worry about us fatties.  8) 8)

I like to say I have no addictions.... Some people would call it a vise. But overeating and making bad food choices based on only things you like is an addiction too.

I am a good 50-60lbs overweight and eating better is my resolution for this year.

As a side note.  There is nothing.....nothing good about smoking.(OK one thing. A smaal percentage of people paying a good amount of taxes into the kitty)  I lost my mom just over a year ago from complications relating to lung cancer.  She was 49.  She lost her lung at 29.  It aint no good folks.

No smoking for me.... Its much more fun to be a bit chunky.  And socially more acceptable!!!!

I didn't worry about it before and don't worry about most of the so called problems we have in society. To me a bigger problem "IMHO" is the American congress, liberal judges and people who really think "all" people are equal and deserve to be treated like everybody else, some don't deserve it. Capital punishment is there for a reason and should be used more.

Well, I finally quit too, almost 6 months ago. July 3rd I had 3 cigs and each one made me feel sick so I said "screw this" and just quit. I haven't had one since. Now the smell drives me nuts and the smoke makes my eyes water. I feel bad for subjecting my wife to that all these years.

But, I've determined that nobody will be successful in quitting until they decide for themselves that they need to quit. All you need is something that hits home with you. For me, it was my health. One of my friends had a heart attack last year and he's 2 days older than me. I think that, coupled with wanting to see my kids grow up, and all the other bad things that go along with smoking, just got to me so much that when I smoked, I got sick. I've known smoking was bad ever since I started and I didn't need people telling me smoking was bad for me. All that did was pi$$ me off! I had to quit for my own reasons and i think that's probably true for everyone.

Best of luck to anyone trying to quit!

OK you bastards, you've got me in too.

I'm a 50 a day smoker & have been for 40 years.

Tomorrow is New Years Eve & a couple of my drivers are forming a sort of group to kick the habit.

Looks they've volunteered me too.

Here's hoping...........

I'd like to quit smoking but I enjoy it to much plus I can still run the mile and a half in under 11 minutes so I've got awhile before I have to.  I think my resolution will be to rebuild this damn bike of mine and get over the fear rebuilding the engine.
What's my problem?  I'm from Wisconsin, that's what my problem is.

I smoked for 43 years and finally quit 12 weeks ago. Yea Chantix, it worked for me and the wife so far. Yes I still want one now and then and probably always will. I don't feel any better yet and food doesn't taste better(thank God). I always did try not to smoke if I was in an enclosed area and others didn't smoke, but at a bar or open area it didn't bother me to light up any time. I just hope that when smoking is prohibited(never happen) then medical costs will drop and half the doctors and medical people will be unemployed. Insurance rates will be cut by 75% and we will all live another 20 years at least. I just wonder what people will have to #$%* about then, life will be great. But I will start smoking again before I become one of those who quit then get all over those who haven't or can't. I tried many times and it is hard to do, I just hope I make it this time, more money for the bike. ;D ;D ;D ;D
I was unsuccessful at quitting last year but I am giving it another go. My best friend got me roped into taking the Welbutrin which worked for him. I really didn't feel any different before, during,or after taking it (for 3 months). Right when I started taking it,I got a job 60 miles from home. That gave me close to 3 hours of driving to & from work each day. I don't know about you but driving is a smoking situation for me.I did that from March to November and I finally moved up to where I work (6.5 miles each way compared to 57!!!). I also took a prescription for the Chantix which I decided to start taking on New Years day. Wish me luck (again!!!).

Good on you Fred, for giving it a go. I was lucky enough to be able to just give them up cold turkey, but I'd resigned myself to giving up for awhile, and by the time I stopped I was down to smoking about 8 at work, none on the 60 mile drive to and from work (company supplied "no smoking" vehicle) and no smoking in the house, so I had to go out to the garage for a smoke.

As it was winter (as mild as they are here) I just thought, "WTF am I doing sitting in the cold on my own, killing myself with these things, and paying for the pleasure?" I'd rather spend the money on hookers and risk the wife beating me to death if she found out, ha ha! ;D

I don't know how much the chantix actually did/does but I do know that the right mental attitude makes a big difference. I hope you have as good a luck as the wife and I did. I agree, driving is really hard with out a smoke sometimes. I just can't believe how quickly the urge passes for me now, it's like one minute that's all I think about and then it's gone. But that minute can be quite tempting.

I started smoking at 15.... when i was 17 I used to smoke almost a packet a day (20 cigarettes). I used to be in better shape than now and did a lot of sport, and somehow I found out that, even when I enjoyed smoking, didn't have much to do with sport. I decided that when the new school course started I would stop smoking cold turkey.... and I suceeded. I remember it was hard for the first two weeks, not that hard for the next two weeks and done after that. I found out that it is not just the physical addiction, but the habits of doing things while smoking where you found yourself strange and craving for a smoke. I still keep the half-empty "lucky strike" packet somewhere in the storage room.

For this year 2008 I have decided to try something that have been in my "to do" list for many years: finishing a marathon. I have been running since may 2007, I run an hour four times a week, and I plan to try the Madrid marathon in April.
