Previously i had the k2 emblems on the tank, today i found a set of k1 emblems, cleaned and stripped them, and repainted with k0 colour.

The final product

Emblems look superb. How did you refinish to get the silver metal outline after black paint? Just block them back to the base metal with wet/dry?

Thanks james.
Cleaned them up with a box cutter blade. Went super slow, with very little pressure and it cleans up nicely. And i finished it with acetone and qtips.

Now, i did try with a couple different paints, and the kind of paint will also determine how well or easily it gets cleaned up.

A thin rag, like t-shirt, wrapped around the EDGE of a credit card with lacquer thinner That is if the paint is loosened by lacquer thinner.

That's a detailer's trick for using those little bottles of touch up paint on chips on cars. Use a couple of coats then "level" with the rag and card. The good part is you won't run the risk of scratching anything.

BTW they do look very nice!

I generally use the same trick, infact i did the exhaust shields that way, but i just could not get a sharp enough a line on these emblems ... plus a couple times it snagged the paint in the wrong place, so ended up reverting to the more tedious process.

Has anyone done an oil tank conversion from k1-k6 to early k0 style neck ?
Also anyone every looked inside the tank, to see what the air oil separator looks like ?

Any pictures

Thanks

Neck is a teeny bit higher on k0, and at a little different angle as well. If you put a k0 side cover on the tank, thats a perfect working stencil

Here is with the converted k1 to k0 style speedometer installed.
Came out pretty decent if you ask me. What do you guys think ..

Speedo guts were from 71, original jewels as well, new faceplate and cover from marcel, also he was kind enough to send me his reproduction base plates, after new holes, and some line up .. fits great now. I cut the lamp shades to mimic k0 lamp shades inside.

Anyone knows where i might be able to get a pdf of the owners manual, for k0 and k1 ? If there is even any out there.
Would someone here be willing to maybe scan me their book?

Been a while since i have been here. Mostly in the background reading convos.
Have some updates though, took a while, but was able to do some work.

The K0 empty engine cases, were chosen to be rebuilt. Found a donor 71 motor, which donated most of the stuff.
Final drive shaft is different on K0 cases than the 71, so that was sourced.
Crankshaft bearings were calculated and new bearing shells were put in.
I had some decent k0 cylinders kicking around, those were honed and reringed.
Head was from a 71. New valves, new seats cut. Guides were not replaced.
No valve seals on exhaust side.
New primary chains, and a good used tensioner.

Cases needed some welding here and there to fix the blind holes, that were damaged by the PO using much longer bolts.
Motor was put together with new plated correct hardware and new yamiya JIS screws for covers.

This motor got a 69 valve cover, with "44.x.xx" date code.

Frame is 69, vin tag removed, powder coated, and vin tag put back on with rivets.
BTW if anyone needs vin rivets, i have couple 100's.

I went through my fork stash, picked out 2 good early style bottoms, took apart the longer chopper forks, and they donated the pistons and damper bushings. I had good used tubes, but ended up putting in reproduction tubes from vintagecb750 instead.

Quick polishing, new seals, and new crush washers, and forks complete. New top bolt caps. nice and shiny and no rust

Unicorn mount was painted satin black. Lower triple was painted gloss black.
New tapered bearings and the neck was together.
Engine is now in the frame. Forks are on.
Swing arm is an early style, with the bracket to hold the chain cover and rear screw. swing arm bushings have been pressed in.
Battery box with regulator and rectifier has been assembled.

Put Oil lines on yesterday.

The only oil tanks i have are 71 and onwards. Which don't sit right with the 69 side covers.
Has anyone ever tried to moved the neck out a little to line up with the cover, or change the mounting ear placement ?

I might just do that, not sure if i will do it now or after i have it running.
I have front rear rims on the way, so i can assemble the wheels.

Things to do ;

Repair coil wires, which are cut.
Polish wheel hubs
get brake shoes for rear
install wiring harness
source a points plate and may be i even have one somewhere.
Convert the gauges

Need an exhaust system. waiting for yamiya to have the No number pipes back in stock.

Will post some pics when i get home.

If someone is looking for original early style fork tubes, please PM me. have a few.
I also have both early and later fork bottoms and tubes.
Some longer chopper style tubes as well to use with earlier bottoms.

A sandcast front wheel hub, which i am willing to sell, i might not use that. along with sandcast rotor and speedo drive retainer.
and rim.

Possibly might let go of my 4 cable carbs as well ?? not too sure on that yet.

Looking to free up some cash for body work and exhaust set.

I have lots of engine internal parts, lots of transmissions.

Doesnt hurt to ask if you need something.

Has anyone ever head of performance motorcycle creative (pms) ... webike in japan sells their exhaust.
I also looked up their website, their catalogue seems to show alot of things yamiya has, are they the exhaust supplier for yamiya no number ?

Theirs exhaust set is on sale. Which is so ewhat cheaper than yamiya or david silver.

i am trying to figure out their pipes, if they are the unnumbered ones, or replica hm300 or replica hm341.
Not a lot of customer support response.
But the price is much better than yamiya

Let me know if you find out any more info on those pipes, appears to be a good price.

Ended up biting the bullet, and ordering a set from webike japan.
With their customer service, we seemed to have a bit of language barrier.

Member "Chiefum" showed me another 5% off coupon, that i had missed.
21% total of the price, me like.

Keeping my fingers crossed. Judging by the diffusers, they seemed early style no number pipes.
Which is what i wanted. Let hope for the best.

Ready to fire up the K0.
Corona virus situation got me sometime.
Set of no number pipes from yamiya.
Though i am not impressed with the fit.

Tomorrow will give her a whirl. Got oil pressure though.

Frank, the center stand you had is it still available ? I know i have beaten that horse for a bit. Is it straight ? I have too many stands that are not perfectly straight. Lol
